Hi all,

I have bought a new PC with McAfee 7.0.0.6, (I think), installed on it.
But I cannot update anything, every time I try to do an update it tells me
that 'Instant Updater was unable to connect with the server...error (-202)'.

Now, error -202 does not help me at all, (I have Internet explorer 6), I
have no problem connecting to the net, I can check my emails, surf the net
without any problems.

I have windows XP Pro, Instant updater version 2.00.2000.0, (apart from
Tlsxpand.dll, version 1.00.0001.0).

McAfee NEVER get back to me, NOBODY at McAfee is helping me at all, my DAT
files are almost a year old.
I cannot update my virus definitions manually, (for some obscure reason).

So please can someone help me on how to either solve that problem or tell me
where I can find a good FREE antivirus that is updated often enough to be
safe.

Many, many thanks.

These errors will occur when the connection to the Internet was not
successful or the connection was interrupted. Some likely causes of this are
temporary server outages, or connectivity problems with your Internet
Service Provider (ISP) or network.

If you are using firewall software, be sure that it is not preventing
it from accessing the Internet.

I somehow doubt it, I have been having that problem for over a week and I do
not have any problems to get on the internet.

I have 2 firewall, the McAfee one and the Win XP one, should I drop them
both?

But the program in question IS by looking at the error code.

Yes, that is the problem, all my programs can connect to the net but not
that one. Why???
What is so special about McAfee that they cannot connect?

BTW I have removed both Firewalls and I still get the same problem.

Something else is wrong.

McAfee updater is just an FTP application wired to go to McAfee site:
ftp://ftp.nai.com

I suggest downloading, at FTP site, sdat4266.exe and executing it with the "/f"
switch parameter to "force" DAT and ENGINE update.

mcaffee at http://www.mcafee.com/support/cust_serv/tech_chat.asp

My Father had a problem with his Mcaffee, used the service and problem

I had the same instant updater not able to connect problem ... spent a
lot of valuable hours searching all over for solution but still cannot
figure out what's wrong. This problem and the message that i read on
the news group has given me a very bad impression of McAfee, but i am
not giving up as yet.

In the process i have downloaded both 4267xdat.exe and sdat4267.exe
from mcafee public ftp site. 4267xdat.exe runs ok and updated my virus
data files to the latest. But sdat4367.exe give the error
"SDStbRES.dll: one of the library files needed to run this application
cannot be found". Any idea how to rectify this?

The difference between the two .exe file is that 4267xdat.exe just
simply update virus dat files and sdat4367.exe updates both engine and
dat files.

Can somebody help !!!!
