Hard reset without using the power button - Is it possible?

I have a Sony Clie S-360 with a broken power button (I managed to drop it,
of course :-) So far, I didn't miss any functionality because I used a hack
to remap the To Do button into a power button, but now I need to hard reset
the unit and I'm not quite sure how to do it. (Why I need to hard reset it
is a whole another thread, but the bottom line is I get an error message and
the unit crashes in certain conditions.) Anyway, like the title says, I'd
like to know if you have any idea how I could hard reset the Clie without
using the power button. I suppose one way would be to try to run down the
batteries, but I'm not sure if that will work.

Running down the batteries will work, but only if you completely run them
down. To do this, enter the shortcut-1 combination (shortcut-tap-tap-1).
Your screen will go blank except for a thin line across the botton. Then
turn on the backlight if you want to speed things up, and let it sit
overnight. Using the shortcut keeps it from automatically turning off on the
low battery alarm. The next day, charge it up for a couple of hours, turn it
on, and you should get the initial welcome screen. Good luck.

shortcut-2 - which I read is supposed to be 'console mode for a high-level
debugger' - and it still doesn't seem to do anything. I mean the screen
doesn't go blank and nothing happens. However I tried shortcut-3 for no-auto
power off and that works. Go figure :-) Is there anything special about the
PalmOS for Clie?
