I had the same problem for about a half day on my E2. Recalibration
wouldn't work, it was too far off. A soft reset didn't work.
I fixed it as follows, though I can't guarantee that all these steps were
actually necessary:
1. Backed up.
2. Did a hard reset
3. Did a cradle reset
4. Restored.
I did both 2 and 3 more because I was annoyed than because I thought it
really needed both. Perhaps one or the other would have done it. When I
got to the calibration step from the resets, it worked the first time. And
it's been working OK since then.
What seemed to have triggered the problem was leaving it in my car overnight
in 34 degree F. When I tried it in the morning, it was off alignment and
never got back on even after it warmed up.

Many thanks for the constructive suggestion. I'll try your solution.

If Bill Leary's suggested fix (further down in the thread) doesn't
help I'll just live with it. Thanks.
We support the E2 where I work. When this happens, we recommend
replacing the units, living with it, or sending it out for repair. The
one repair place (not sure the name of it) will put glass screens in.
The guy who tried that had good luck.
Thanks for the input.

Uh oh. Could be a problem for me if I ever leave it outside. We're down to 20 F at
night now.

I'd left my other Palms in the cold before and the only result was that the
screen was slow to respond to the stylus until they warmed up a bit.
In this case, I noticed it on the car seat as I got in the car, dropped it
in my coat pocket, and drove to work. About a ten minute drive. When I got
in the office, wherever I touched it the action occurred a bit above it. In
Memos, for example, it kept selecting the line above the one I wanted. I
left it to warm up on my desk, but by noon it was still off. So I tried the
reset tricks. From other comment on here, I'm gathering that I was lucky it
worked.

Mine is always in my shirt pocket. Indeed the first thing I ever do when selecting a
shirt is to see if it easily fits. I also don't wear tshirts, etc. So actually I
should never have to worry about this problem.

I've had bad luck with shirt pockets. The work I do (day-job and hobby)
involves bending over too much. I've dropped or nearly dropped them too
many times. I usually keep mine in my front pants pocket, but I'd actually
used it in the car that time. I had directions and a map on it, so it was
on the seat when I wasn't actually reading one or the other. When I got out
of the car, I just forgot it.
