If he is unable to use the cradle with another computer as well, it sounds like
the cable may be bad.

If ya using WIN95/98, try to see if the port is available first, (rgt click
on My Comp, select Properties, then in the tabbed dialog box, select tab
Device Manager, in the tree below expand branch Ports [COM and LPT])
If there's no COM1, reset the computer, enter BIOS setup (for example hold
down Del key while booting) and set up the desired COM ports (they may not
be enabled on the board). If this is the case, and you succesfully enabled
one or more ports, when Windows loads it will automatically detect and
install your new port, ready for use. Just take care that the settings are
correct and consistent between Windows and the Palm desktop software (check
Hotsync\setup...\local).
Hope that'll work for you.

Try using the port for something else (mouse etc) to see if it functions
properly. It is probably a config problem, which could be as simple as
Control Panel, or as fiddly as dip switches in the box.

Good luck !

After a long, hard day of battling the soulless minions of orthodoxy,
I came home just in time to see that eclip...@aol.com (Eclipse219)

Try a soft reset. It worked for me.

Brilliant. Although I'm not the original poster, it worked beautifully
for me. Thank you.
