I am a new Palm Pilot user (Palm Vx) and I downloaded a few software
from the internet and loaded them to my Palm Pilot. I can't seem to
read the files with a ".pbd" extension. I have TealDoc and AportisDoc
as my readers. TIA.

It is just a guess as to what applications you need as .pdb is a
database file and will need a specific application. There is no general
.pdb reader/application to read all .pdb files. Your best bet is to go
back to where you downloaded these .pdb files and look in the
description for what progam is required. Otherwise it is like looking
for a needle in a hay stack :-)

Hi, Doris. *All* Palm databases have a "PDB" extension, but they vary
internally, so they each require a different reader. The location from
where you downloaded the files should have given you some indication as to
what type of database it is and what reader / viewer you'd need.

Check the orginating location, and if it's not clear, you could try posting
to this newsgroup more details about what you downloaded and from where and
someone here should be able to help you.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with this problem. I downloaded
JFile Pro and MobileDB and was able to read some of the pdb files (not
all of them tho'). There's a lot to learn and I'm just a beginner.

Take care,

.PDB files need iSilo or iSilo Free to view [I recommend converting any
.DOC files to iSilo format anyway]

Not necessarily. I have many Docs in .pdb format
that can be read by Aportis, Teal, etc. .pdb's in
iSilo format need iSilo, but not all .pdb's are in
that format.

*Some* .pdb files may be in iSilo format, but certainly not all!

The .pdb extension indicates a Palm DataBase (as opposed to an app,
a .prc). All palm databases are in .pdb format. To determine
what app you need, try downloading ZarfCatalog. Look at the
"Creator ID" of the file in question. If you don't recognize it,
go to http://oasis.palm.com/devzone/creatorid/ and look it up.
That should give you the name of the app, at least. Then you can
search for it on PalmGear or another site.

Hope this helps,
Dave W.
