I'd like to be able to enter a latitude and longitude into my Visor, and
then be shown on a map where this location is -- something along the
lines of the "map" control panel on a Mac. (I read a lot of nautical
books, if you're wondering what use this could be.) Does anyone know of
a program that does this?

I had an application Palm Globe that did this - whether to the degree you
want I cannot say. Search usual suspects to see if it is still about; sorry
I have mislaid the url etc.

thanks to both of you, and Palm Globe seems interesting, but this isn't
quite what I'm looking for. Although I can set a "viewpoint" on this, I
see, it doesn't have an indicator -- a blinking dot would be good -- of
where those particular coordinates are.

Try CityTime. I know it's a time program, but it will show you the
location, but only for a short while.

I've got it, but I don't see the coordinates anywhere. Am I missing
something?

Try edit cities, NEW, then I guess create a new city called "New City" . Tap
location , then coords, then enter coords. Whenever you select your "New City"
a cross will blink on the map for a few seconds showing location of "New City"
For a different set of coords edit your "New City"
However map is so small not sure how useful this will be.

Hey, that works! The map is good enough -- I'm just trying to get the
gist of things when reading Patrick O'Brian. Thanks.

Off topic - those offended look away.......
Now you say you want this to keep up with Patrick O'Brian, I wonder if you
have seen Harbours & High Seas by Dean King ISBN 0805059482. This is atlas &
geographical guide to the Aubrey-Maturin novels. Recommended.

I hadn't seen it -- it looks ideal. Thank you.
