Do any of you guys know of a way to get a Quicken (99) file to a
spreadsheet? I am trying to line graph some investments, net worth, etc.
and have exceeded my knowledge base. Thanks, Leo.

stuff to the spreadsheet but not is usable form, ie columns that are
graphable. Thanks

Not sure I can help, but perhaps if you provide a bit more
information, someone could.

1.) What spreadsheet program are you using?
2.) How did you get your data from Quicken into the spreadsheet?
3.) How did you determine that the columns were not "graphable"?

John: I am using both "Open Office" and Works. They are both Excell
clones.
I export to a QIF file and then just access the QIF file with the
spreadsheet. The data is not usable because it appears in tabular rather
than column form. Each bit of information is sort of discreet, not
manipulatable (is that a word?) with the spreadsheet. Thanks, Leo

Ahh, that helps (I think).

Do not use QIF files, "print" your data. Create a report in
Quicken that has the data you are interested in, then when you do
File > Print ..., select "Tab-delimited Disk File", or "123 (.PRN)
Disk File". Excel can import these with no trouble.

Follow the information on the link to Converting Quicken reports to
other programs, such as Excel.

Hi Slaton,
> http://www.intuit.com/support/quicken/99/win/5140.html

Other than the fact that the article indicates to choose tab delimited
I think it is a bit sparse on instructions to transfer data to spreadsheet
even if the spreadsheet program is Excel.

I don't know how different Open Office is going to be but in Excel
you would use File, Open and the import wizard kicks in and
you would choose "delimited", on the next panel you would choose
what the delimiter is, since tab is already checked (as opposed to a comma),
continue to next panel, where you may have to tell what the fields
are such as date and location of month (whether mdy or dmy).

Also in Excel had you already received your data into the single
column you could use Data, Text-to-columns and then you
would be working more or less with he same Import Text Wizard
as above.

As I said I don't know how close Open Office is to Excel, I expect
the menus to be very close.

I was never able to pick up the "printed" file with Open Office but Works
gets it just fine from any of the formats. I just didn't know to print to
disk rather than trying to export.
Evidentally ther is a bit of difference between "Open Office" and Excel. I
assumed they were the same. I guess there is still "No free lunch". Dang.

Hi Leo,
The options may be different, but is is extremely unlikely that
Open Office would not be able to read in a file with tab delimiters
(hex 09) directly, such files are passed back and forth to
mainframes for years.

Chances are if you assumed it was there, you would probably
find the option in a few minutes.

However, a Google web search, I used the installed toolbar:
tab delimied openoffice
and my misspelling with no hits was automatically corrected to
tab delimited openoffice
turns up the following and others obviously .
http://documentation.openoffice.org/user_faq/spreadsheet/
a frequent question because it is the number 1 item.

David: Many thanks. I'll mess around with it. The price is right, and I
sort of like the motive. Leo.

You can try writing to a text file.
I think Quicken has a couple of printing options including an ASCII file.
If not set your windows printer to a file.

Then import the file to your spreadsheet.

Check our this Excel tool to read QIF files an turn them into detail
line-item reports.
(It's cheap.) See http://www.bigredconsulting.com/AboutQIFConverter.htm
