Quicken 2010 now nags me to upgrade every time I launch it. Used to be I
could set the nag to 14 days hence. No more, alas.

How can I disable the nag? I don't mind diddling with the register.

I'm running Windows XP.

As I recall, there is a little checkbox that says "don't show me this
again". If so, check it.

On the other hand, Quicken Deluxe 2012 is at Costco for $19.99, with
their coupon.

I should have mentioned. Quicken is now ignoring the check box.

Try this ....in the Quicken 2010 opening screen press "CTRL+Shift" and
find and press the "ONE STEP UPDATE button" all at the same time ... you
shud get a confirmation that you won"t get prompted anymore. Worked for
me a while back....

Thanks, that seems to have worked. At least I got a message box saying I
will no longer be prompted to update.

Good trick.

Why do these companies plague paid owners of full-package software with this
crap?

Trend Micro does it as well, then does not add a whole year when entering a
new serial number.

I'm trying to kill the upgrade nag which occurs once in a while, so I

So far launching it with "Run as administrator" and then unchecking the remind
me marketing nag box has worked for me. I haven't seen the upgrade notice
since and I've unchecked that marketing nag a dozen times prior to trying to
run as administrator and it would continue the marketing nag.

Right-click your Quicken icon (either on the desktop or in the start menu, or
find the qw.exe file in Program Files folder), and choose "Run As
Administrator" and then uncheck the marketing remind me nag box.. You will
get a warning that Quicken doesn't support run as administrator so you may
want to close it then reopen it with a normal double-click.

It has worked for me.

Note, I am referring to the marketing nag about upgrading and not the
marketing nag about registration..

I'm running Quicken 2013 (sunset edition that I just recently installed) and none of the various fixes for stopping the upgrade nag have worked for me.

I might be unusual in this, but I don't want Quicken to "phone home" in any way. I just use it as a register and reconciler. I don't need to communicate with any banks or online at all. I enter my transactions manually.

So I set up a firewall to block qw.exe outgoing, and to my great surprise, this stopped the nag popup cold. Have not seen it since.

If you don't need Quicken's online capabilities, just create a new rule in Windows Firewall to block qw.exe outgoing.

No it doesn't. The End User License Agreement permits you to install Q on up to 3 personally owned devices. Just bring the Q2015 up to Q2017 by installing Q2017 on that PC also.

You are wrong.

Q2017 can be installed on many but will not share a data file across LAN
or iNet.

My data files are on a SD card which I move from my desktop to my travel
laptop to access when away from home.

I'm using Quicken 2016 Home and Business, have had success turning off upgrade nag with these steps:
o Nag occurs about every 4-7 days.
o Change computer date to one week in advance of current date.
o Launching Quicken “As Administrator” from shortcut.
o Uncheck the reminder and cancel the dialog.
o Reset computer date back to current date.

\intuit\quicken\config folder. You should see a file named QUSER.INI. Double
click on it to open it. To make sure that quicken is using this QUSER.INI
file, notice the number after the ExecNum= (in my file, it's the 2nd line).
Exit out of the QUSER.INI file. Restart Quicken. Quit Quicken. Open the
QUSER.INI file. the number after ExecNum= should have increased by 1. If this
is the case, change the number to 0 and save the file. Exit QUSER.INI and
right click the file. Select Properties. Under the attributes section,
select read only. This prevents Quicken from changing the number after
ExecNum=. I found that if the number is less than 4, the nag screen doesn't
appear. Note: Before doing this, make sure that the most recent files list
is the way you want it. Quicken won't be able to change this list. This is
not a problem for me, since I use the same file every time.

This worked for me although, I did have to block quickenPatch.exe also. I am running Quicken 2016 on Windows 10 and like kenn, I use Quicken as a standalone. I do not need or WANT it communicating any of my financial information across the internet. And I will never pay for subscription software. I already have a replacement in mind for when my Quicken 2016 no longer works.
To block Quicken outbound communication on Windows 10: Start> Windows Defender Security Center> Advance Settings> Outbound Rules> New Rule
I currently have qw.exe and quickenPatch.exe block from outbound communication.

I found another way to do it since I have the register appear when I start Quicken. On the register display, there is a To Do button in the lower-right corner. Click on that. In the column that opens, a One Step Update button appears. Hold down CTRL and SHIFT and click on this button. A message appears that you will no longer receive registration notifications. The upgrade prompt is not appearing any more.

Some geek needs to figure this out. None of the above fixes work for me!

Maybe you can check to see if this might work. With Quicken 2017 Home and Business, that came from former owners Intuit. New Owners bought it out, and went to annual subscriptions. I don't want to save my files on a cloud. I never use the download options either. New owners seem to give it updates and then winter of 2021-22 started telling me my Quicken 2017 "subscription" was expired. 2017 was not sold as a "subscription", but it had the download period, that I never used anyway, and that had expired long past, but this new warning of expired subscription, which was likely coming from new owners updates to 2017, started blocking Quicken 2017 Home and Business from doing my books. And with all this Covid nonsense to shut down businesses, it is not easy getting by either. This worked for me to stop that so I can continue to use my 2017 software: While holding down the Ctrl and Shift keys, click "Tools" in the menu then "One Step Update". You should get a window that says "You will no longer be prompted for registration" and Okay that. That has stopped the unneeded Intuit ID login for me, and the subscription ended blocking.

Nope, this poster is wrong. we've been running Quicken on a local network with one shared data file for a few decades now. each machine needs an install of quicken. that's it
