When I run a Comparison Report (YTD vs. prior year) of contributions by
payee, the last payee listed shows a balance in the YTD column but a
zero in the prior year column (which is correct). When I double-click on
the dollar amount shown in either column for any other payee, I get a
drill-down report showing the detail breakdown of the total amount in
that particular column. So far, so normal EXCEPT that I cannot
double-click on the total in the YTD column of that last payee to get a
breakdown.

I experimented by adding some test items in one of the registers and lo
and behold,if there is a zero in the prior year column and an amount in
the YTD column or vice versa *and* the payee comes last in the report
(even if there are two such consecutive rows at the end of the report),
none of the totals for those particular rows are double-clickable.

I then entered two transactions with a payee name that would display in
between the two end rows that had a zero total in the YTD column. One
transaction was dated in the current year and one was dated in the prior
year. Now the total in the YTD column for the last transaction in the
report was still not double-clickable, but the transaction that was now
third from the end (and showed a zero balance in the prior year column)
*was* now double-clickable, apparently because it was followed by a row
where there was an amount in the prior-year column.

My Quicken version is R53.16, Build 27.1.53.16 (the most current
version). My OS is 64-bit Windows 10 Pro Version 22H2 with 16 GB of RAM.

I attempted to replicate your problem in R53.16, but could not. [I too have 64-bit Windows 10 Pro.]

Here's what I did:

- Created 1 current month (December 2023) transaction for each of 2 new test payees whose names begin with ZZ1 and ZZ2 (to insure that in any report sorted by payee, they would be the last ones displayed)
- Ran the Spending > Current Spending vs Average Spending by Payee report (from the Reports menu); customized for "Current Year" (there is no "Year to date" choice) vs "Prior Year". Also customized the report to use only the account where I entered the 2 new test transactions

There were several other payees in the selected account (and in the report), but my two test ZZ payees appeared as the last 2 payees in the report - with $0.00 in the "Last year" column and a non-zero amount in the "Current Year" column.

I was able to drill down on the non-zero report amounts for both payees, which displayed the test transaction I had created for each.

Should my test have duplicated your results?

Also, are you using a "Saved" report, or creating the report from the Reports menu?

I learned from the online Quicken community that apparently this is a
long-standing problem. I reported it to Quicken.

Strange: I read your original post some time ago and composed a reply to it -
but clearly, I never sent the reply.

My comments basically said I could not reproduce your problem,
but was not certain I created the exact conditions necessary to do so.

Can you post a link to the Community Discussion you referred to?

Sorry; I used new software to view and respond; it did not show my previous reply here.

This would still be a good idea.
