If you have experienced this problem with Quicken, please reply with
your Windows version, Internet Explorer version and your Quicken
version. Perhaps if we find a common thread we can get them to fix
this annoying problem.
IE 6.0, Windows ME, Quicken 2002.

I don't usually have this problem with Quicken but I've often observed it with
IE when I have several IE windows open simultaneously.
My guess is that the Windows OS just doesn't have enough System Resources
available to activate the Quicken window. ["System Resources" are two 64K
regions of memory used by the Windows 9x/Me family to store things like menu
items, graphics and icons. Quicken is a real System Resources hog.]
When I get this problem I click the Show Desktop icon in my System Tray (or
alternatively hit "D" while holding down the Windows key [usually between Ctrl
and Alt]. This usually minimizes all my windows, including some stubborn ones
that won't respond to the _/Minimize command, and allows me to Restore my
window of choice.
My recommendation is to run as few other processes as possible when you're
using Quicken unless you have a more inherently stable version of Windows (i.e
Windows NT, 2000 or XP).
Hope this helps.

When you minimize the other program and it won't minimize, does
the "maximize" button on the top right of the window turn into
the "restore" button (2 boxes intersecting)? That would be a
sign that Windows thinks the window is minimized but it isn't.
That is what I see when this is happening.
Of course if this is not the same as your symptom, then "never
mind". I run WinME with Q2001, but it's not release related,
it's system resource utilization.

I have found that I can maximize Quicken when this happens by right
click|Maximize on the program title button in the pending task bar.
I have Windows 98SE, with 256 MB RAM.

I would cast my vote with "system resources" as the culprit. I have
32mb of video memory and I have this type of problem with Quicken - and
occasionally other apps. And I tend to run a lot of apps at the same
time - to say nothing of Quicken's (Q2000 deluxe) single-handed
appropriation of resources.
Windows (prior to XP) shares a fixed amount of memory (640kb or maybe
1mb) with all running programs. The more programs running and the more
resources each running program utilizes (each open "tab" in Quicken
requires additional "resources" for example); the less there is to go
around.
