I have just installed Q2000 and it connects OK to the internet via my
Freeserve server EXCEPT for One Step Updates. In spite of the fact that I
know I'm satisfactorily connect it tells me that it can't find my server.
The On Line Quote on the Home Page says Error 1524 'Unable to locate
Server .....'

On the arlog.txt following such a failure it says

'Upload Error to inverse005.inverse.net: Error resolving proxy address.
WSATRY_AGAIN: Non-Authoritive Host not found'

What does all this gobbldy-gook mean and how can I stop it and get it to
believe that I'm connected.

Needless to say I have checked my proxy settings in Q2K Set Up and have set
them to the same as those in Freeserve IE4.

Any help for less than 75p/min would be appreciated.

Jack,
The 'Unable to locate Server' and the WSATRY_AGAIN make sense.
The Windows sockets library tried to resolve (locate) the server.
(A bit like looking up a name in the phone book to find the phone number
to actually call).
It is allowed a certain amount of time to find an answer, and this time
was exceeded.
The Windows sockets library therefore told Quicken 'Host Not found'
which Quicken translated to you as 'unable to locate server'.
The key thing that the log adds to this is the reason why you got
'unable to locate server'. In this case it was not because you had an
invalid server name (which would be Authoritative host not found), but
rather that some part of the internet couldn't provide the answer within the
allowable timeframe, hence the "TRY AGAIN".
