Thanks much!
First of all, any kind of conversion in Peachtree is messy (even some
version upgrades). The good news is that Peachtree Software has a conversion
tool for doing that. The problem is that I don't know if their convesion
tool works for the PCAW v8, since the actual version is 2002 (v9).
The bad news are: IMHO (based on previous experiences), the conversion from
DOS to PAW is very-very bad. You will have to enter many things again.
Bottom line: You will have to run parallel accounting programs for a while
and figure out the many changes that Peachtree did to your data.
Another option to consider is to export some of the data within PCA-DOS
using PDQ. Then import the data to PAW. This is a lot more complicated, but
it gives you much more control over the data is transferring. I would
recomend this approach only if you have a somewhat simple company and do not
use all the modules.
Hope it Helped,

I've performed several of these conversions, so I think it's pretty
straightforward. However, I work with accounting software for a
living. As long as you back up your data, you can't do any harm giving
it a shot on your own.
Good luck!

Like Craig said, doing so at the end of a FY is good, but not a requirement.
You must however, do the conversion at the end of a period and ALL modules
must be in the same generation number, including GL.
