Handy Backup by Novosoft, is it a ripoff?

I thought I needed a simple utility for backing up and restoring files so I
tried out Handy Backup, it seemed OK so I bought a licence. The licence
does not work. Novosoft do not answer any e-mail messages. The try before
you buy period is nearly up.

Has any body managed to get this software to work? I would appreciate some
help.
I realise that this software costs very little but if this is a rip off
people should know they need to avoid Novosoft products. They have a
professional looking website but there is no one home.

I have been using Handy Backup for over six months, with no problems
whatsoever. My configuration runs three different backup jobs daily to LAN,
and a weekly backup to CDR.

I have to disagree with you. I feel that Handy Backup is a great value for
the functionality it provides and is quite simple to use. I have always
received a response when contacting support and they are courteous and eager
to help solve any problems.

Not to make any excuses for them, but it's possible that they are still
dealing with the effects of the recent virus attacks. Give 'em a break.
Try a different e-mail address or give them a call. The phone number is on

Could you please answer a couple of questions for me?

1) Where did you download Handy Backup?
2) What version of Handy Backup you are currently using?
3) What e-mail addresses you used for contacting our Support Team?

My recommendations for you:

I highly recommend you to download and install the latest build of
Handy Backup 4.0 directly at http://www.handybackup.com/hb40.exe.

Please run the program. This way you can verify if the problem you are
experiencing has been resolved. If upgrading did not aid you in your
problem, please describe your problem in more details. If there were
any errors during backup operation, please also send us the whole
logfile of the operation. The information presented in the logfile
will help us to properly diagnose the problems you are having with
Handy Backup. By the way, logfile is shown in the bottom pane of the
main window of Handy Backup. To save the logfile, please right click
on the pane, select "Save Log..." from the context menu and send the
saved file to us.

if I go to handybackup.net, it talks of version 4.1, yet
handybackup.com talks of version 4.0... do you know why ?

we've downloaded v3.9 about 6 weeks ago, and the trial run indicated
that the product worked well communicating to an ftp site

we purchased 8 licenses for our 8 sites, and have upgraded to version
4.0 and today to version 4.0 build sept29, which fixes some of the
issues that we've reported in the past week

we seem to get email response within 24 hours, which is logical, we
are in western Canada.. but I've reported another issue today to your
support email that I need a work around or fix since it is preventing
the backup of our most important file server

your attention to the issue is greatly appreciated

I think you need to read your e-mail or at least delete some of it,
seems like your mailbox is full and that's why we/I have to read your
personal mail here.

If it's due to Swen, then try Mailwasher to filter out/delete those
posts, it's free and very fast.

Thank you for responding to my messsage on this news site. My Tiscali mail
address has been spammed out of existence and I have suspended the account.

I bought the licence for HB from softlogica.

I cannot register the product, the auto register function in the program
does not work. If I enter the registration string the message "Unknown
error" displayed. If I enter a slightly different, and therefore incorrect
string, the message "server not found is displayed". When I try to register
by e-mail it is returned undelivered.

Also I have one computer which is isolated from the internet how can I
register its copy of HB?

support for it. So, in your case I highly recommend you to uninstall
Handy Backup 4.1 and install Handy Backup 4.0. You can download Handy

should register your copy of Handy Backup. I have decided to enclose
the necessary registration instructions below, just in case:

1. Run the program.
2. Go to the Help menu.

Dear Reader,

For those following this thread it may not be entirely clear what has
happened. So I will explain. I purchased Handy Backup Version 4.1 from one
of the many sites which advertise this software. I happened to choose to
buy the licence from Softlogica. The software I downloaded is apparently a
cloned older version of HB. This clone has been created illegally and the
registration function does not work. I failed to get any response from the
site when I tried to ask for assistance. The message I placed at the start
of this thread was responded to by Marina Tyoplenkaya, Chief Customer
Support Manager of Novosoft Inc. Following her advice I have successfully
registered a copy of Handy Backup 4.0. If my understanding of the
circumstances are correct Novosoft are supporting my copy of their software
even though they have not received payment for it!

My thanks to Marina & Novosoft. I wish you luck with your action against
the pirateers.

I would like to clarify some issues. SoftLogica is not one of the
pirates. We are working closely with this company to develop our
business partnerships. Let me explain you the situation. You
downloaded Handy Backup 4.1 (the clone version) at www.handybackup.net
which belongs to Novosoft LLC who illegally distributes our software
and that is why your registration was rejected.
