I operate 3 shareware sites, selling different shareware titles but
all in the web-design / web-tools category. I notice the registration
has dropped since mid-July. Some post here mentioned it could be a
seasonal thing (because of the summer holidays). Has anyone noticed
the same?

Think what is happening world-wide. People may not be quite so willing to
spend on non-essentials right now....

We see this question each year around this time both here and in other
forums. While there is no doubt there is an economic downturn it's
impossible to map this in the short term when the seasonal variation is
known to impact so many businesses. IMHO folks would better spend their
time planning for next years seasonal downturn in a bid to mitigate the
future - as far as that is practicable.

Only seasonal, not across the board stuff. That's be impossible to do.
All I'm saying is if one knows the Northern Summer is slow then (and
this won't work with all products) try out things to boost sales ahead
of time. Kind of the way squirrels hoard their Winter food. ;-)

Yes, but besides the seasonal thing, I'm clearly noticing an impact (from
something ... for now I hope it's the economy and not something else that I
don't know off).
I track very accurate, since 2002, and I know that this time of year sales
are less, but the decrease in sales percentage that I have been seeing the
last 2 months is nothing I have seen before. So I'm worried, it's either
the stiff competition or the economy, or both.
All I know is that if sales start to pick up again (fingers crossed) it will
be a relieve.
I understand it when people post here, asking if other people see a similar
impact on sales. If others see it too, then at least you can worry a bit
less and focus on the work. If all the rest says sales are good, then
you're screwed of course :)

Our web-service biz is better than ever. Maybe the tide is turning away
from desktop applications toward web-based services? I hope so... but I
doubt it. Anyway, business is great for us and getting better. I have
no idea why! I don't know about other web-services out there. If this is
an economic downturn, I hope it lasts for the next ten years!

Isn't your service B2B ?
Software (or services) targetting Businesses will feel less of the economic
downturn I'm sure.

No, don't bet on that.

I don't think your increased sales or turnover is linked to the crisis, so
it won't matter for you.
Just figure out why it has improved and build on that.
