I have been looking at this trendnet-thing:
http://trendnet.com/products/proddetail.asp?prod=100_TV-IP400W&cat=48
I can see, people recommend Axis, Axis and Axis, but I think it's too
expensive. This trendnet cam is half the price of the cheapest Axis.
Is it worth the money?
My specs. are:
IP-cam
wifi
pan-tilt
good picture
Night-view
easy managing software
/Claus
The tv400 is the same as a dlink dcs-900 (see my
post a few minutes ago) except with a pan/tilt.
The trendnet 301 is a decent camera, but none of
the other trendnets are any good. W just throws
on wifi.
>... This trendnet cam is half the price of the cheapest Axis.
You can get an Axis 206 for under $200. A non-wifi
207 would be better. The 207W is up there (compared
to that).
>Is it worth the money?
No. It's junk.

The trendnet 301W is very good at night;
it has an bank of IR LEDs that come on in
low light and throws enough light to fill
a large room well. Trendnet may have a
newer 400-like PT that's based on the guts
of the dlink 950 (SMC has had this for more
than a year now, and the 950 is more bad
than good). the 950 has a NightShot mode
(I can't say about the newer trendnet)
but all that really does is drop the FPS
down to 4-5 FPS (slow shutter) so everything
that moves is ghosted. Many cameras today
already do that (increase the exposure time).
If you didn't need PT, I'd say spend a
couple hundred more and get the 301W if
you want night view. You won't get better
night shots for the money, not in an ip
camera. It puts out a lot of IR light,
and turns off during the day. The Axis
207w (not 207mw) is pretty good at night,
but only if you can deal with shadows.
It needs some light. The 301W doesn't
need any.
P.S. The newer trendnet PT (similar to the
outdated 400 in style) I think may have
a few IR LEDs. Not many, and probably
not very bright, but maybe good enough
for what you need. Provantage.com may
have more on that.
