I just downloaded the latest nVIDIA's detonator (.0353) and to my
surprise the V-Sync OFF/ON still does not function (it is always OFF,
resulting in "tearing" effect)
I have a Hercules TNT2 Ultra and I never seen nVIDIA to do anything
about this issue...
Can anyone confirm, add comments?
Best regards,

From the help on the 2.63 detonators
Select this option to disable vertical sync.
Also known as "disabling VSYNC", this allows an image to be immediately
rendered to
the screen without waiting to be synchronized to the vertical retrace of the
monitor. This allows
for frame rates higher than the refresh rate of your monitor, but may
produce visual artifacts and
tearing resulting in reduced image quality.
Possible help, up your refresh rate, should be able to set 100Mhz, maybe.
Translation, Vsync does not check the monitor refresh scan to ensure it is a
good time to
update the screen image resulting in strage effects such as tearing, either
enable it or try
to work around it by altering your refresh rate.
For more help on other features, try right clicking your mouse over ther
named text.

Say that you have your moniter's refresh rate set to 75hz. If you have
vsync enabled your framerate could not go above 75. The only way you could
get more fps is if your framerate was going higher then that and having
vsync enabled was holding your fps back.
I run quake3 with the default com_maxfps 85 and I have my moniter set to
85hz and I leave vysnc enabled. No tearing.

Click where it says
Driver information for AMD Athlon(TM) users
It says for Athlon users only but they work fine on my Celeron.

The 3.62 drivers are the 3.53 drivers with one additional feature. They will
put an
Athalon and GeForce combination into 1X AGP mode, any other combination
of CPU/Nvidia video card will work as is, and yes they support other CPU's
and
the TNT/TNT2 chipset. I run them on my PII 450 with a V770U just fine.
1)Force MultiTexture:
Try enabling Multitexture by adding the DWORD ForceMultiTexture= "1" under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\RivaTNT\OpenGL
2)Vsync:
With Nvidia drivers 2.08 and CL drivers 2.04, the single registry key:
DefaultSwapInterval is used... It is a DWORD.
When it is set as ffffffff (eight f's), it disables OpenGL Vsync; setting
it at 1 enables it.

Mike

How much video memory do you have? going from 23-38fps tell me
you have very little video memory, or the test do not use tripple bufering.
In quake3 I see maybe ~1fps diference betwen sync & unsynced...
I will take that 1fps hit, and not see the ugly & disturbing screen tearing.
Breaking a thing dont make them better... Vsyn off is only for benchmarking
the code GFX engine.
