Hi all,

I am not able to set my Asus V7100/2V1D into Windows-Dualview-Mode. I
installed the Detonator-Drivers V28.32 from the NVidia Website, but the
"treat multiple outputs on an nView-capable board as separate display
devices" option, mentioned in chapter "using Multi-Display Modes" of the
nViewDesktopMangerGuide_2832 will not show up.
I am however able to use the nView Span/Clone Mode, but this won't be much
use, since one display is a 17'' TFT and the other one a 17''CRT, so
1280x1024 will not be too great on the second screen. So I need Dualview to
be able to choose different settings on the two displays.

My System is Windows 2000, and as said I use an Asus-7100/2V1D with the
3.11.00.18 BIOS and the 28.32 drivers.

groups.google didn't help, so I hope somebody here knows the answer.

Thanks in advance,

Uli

Guess what: I solved the problem: I use the german version of Windows 2000,
so the Detonator-Driver is installed in the german version too. I suppose
somebody forgot to include the missing option in the german version of the
controls. However it is possible to activate the dualview mode manually by
setting the EnableW2kDualView key under
HKLM\System\CurrControlSet\Services\nv\Device0 to "01 00 00 00". Reboot.
Done.
Thank you, Nvidia, for stealing my time.

Uli

I just got a second display today, and I am having the same problem.
Thought you might want to know that you are not the only one. I'm
using windows2000 and the 28.32 drivers, but no dual-view mode is
available in the nview tab.
-sigh-

Etienne

Under the nView tab, select Standard View (nView disabled). Go to
Display Properties>Settings and click on the second monitor icon and
then check " Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" and click
Apply. The secondary monitor should then come to life. You can then
set the resolution for each monitor separately, but get the same
effect as the horizonal span in nView, i.e., you can move windows or
programs between the 2 monitors. You can also spread one window
across both monitors (same as horizonal spread) by going to nView's
Desktop Manager>Windows and selecting "Enable Window spanning across
monitors" or tell Windows which monitor to use for each program, as
well as where to open dialog boxes.

I have a PNY GeForce 4 4600 ti and a PCI based GeForce 2mx 400 and I cannot
get second monitor (powered by the mx card) to work. Nview or dualview do
even recognize a second monitor in the display properties. I tried setting
my bios to PCI for initial display and it does show the boot process on the
second monitor, but as soon as Windows loads the display switched to the AGP
card and I still cannot use the second monitor. After many an hour
uninstalling and re-installing freak'in drivers in different conbinations, I
decided to relax with a little Return to Castle Wolfenstein, now it loads
and I here the music playing but all I see is a grey screen.

If anyone knows anything about these problems and can lend a hand I would be
grateful.

Thanks

News, you're doing it the hard way and forfeiting the advantages of
one of the PNY GF4 Ti 4600's primary features. You can (and should)
uninstall and remove the GF2 MX400, and run both monitors from the GF4
Ti 4600. That's what the dual RAMDACs and dual outputs on the Ti 4600
are for. As I recall, your PNY Verto (like my Visiontek Xtasy) has
one DVI port and one 15-pin D-Dub (analog) port. If you have 1 flat
panel and 1 CRT or 2 flat panels, just hook the video cables up to the
monitors (using the analog connection for one of the FPs). If you
have two CRTs, you will need an adapter to convert the DVI port to a
DB-15 port. Some cards come with the adapter, some don't. If your's
didn't, check out http://www.directron.com/dviadapter.html (an
example, not a recommendation). Then follow the steps described in
the earlier post. This will give you a much more stable (and faster)
system than the dual card setup and eliminates card, driver and IRQ
arbitration or conflicts.

Etienne,

Having given up on 'Twinview' long ago under W2K for the stupid way it
handled both monitors I went to a 2 card set up to get things working
properly (i.e. be able to have 2 diff size monitors set to diff resolutions,
refresh rates & colour depth). With the release of the latest drivers,
however, I was intrigued to see a mention of 'Dualview' which supposedly did
just this. Unfortunately, on installation I was greatly disappointed to see
the old Twinview options & nothing new.

Thankfully, I noticed a second post from Ulrich (detailed below) where he'd
solved the problem mentioned in the original post regarding the German
version of W2K. Having tried it myself I'm delighted to say it also works
for the UK version!

"It is possible to activate the dualview mode manually by setting the

EnableW2kDualView key under
HKLM\System\CurrControlSet\Services\nv\Device0 to "01 00 00 00". Reboot.
Done."

And it is! For the first time I have 2 monitors running independently both
off a single card. If I'd a third monitor spare I could have even plugged it
into the (now redundant) Matrox & run a triple desktop with the options
available.

The only other thing I'd advise would be to download a copy of Ultramon
2.0b6 from www.realtimesoft.com as this allows brilliant control of multiple
wallpapers, screensavers, etc. (not just app location as allowed by the
nVidia desktop manager).

Hope this helps

Regards

DM

Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you DM.

The registry edit worked, and with a little tweaking and reloading,
all my software works again with the Dual-view mode. (PowerDVD and
ATI TV wonder software wouldn't work at first with Span View).

Thanks again.
Etienne
