I believe it
nVidia is in business to MAKE MONEY
not MAKE US HAPPY
They are like any other huge Corp.
They don't care as long as they sell their wares

Which totally ignores the concept of attending to users = more profits.

nVidia chooses to let tv-out slide for a few reasons.

1) It's not popular.

2) It's been done better by other cards/makers

3) It's not profitable.

TV-Out is almost an oxymoron in the computing industry.

Nvidia has had TV out since their very first Video card, period and has
always had it since.
As far as special settings that you want to play with, there are plenty of
programs out there
which do exactly what you want. On the other hand, I'm sorry I can't point
you to them as I've
not had any interest in TV out in over a year in which there was plenty of
programs then which
accessed the Chrontel or Phillips chips directly at the register level back
then including the
ability to disable Macrovision protection that way one could play a DVD on
their computer and the output could
be recorded to a VCR or other device. I never got into illegal stuff
knowingly, but I do remember how neat that
feature was since I feel that Macrovision is a violation of the individual
as we all have a right to make a single
copy for ourselves to cover our investment if our investment media goes bad.
As far as Nvidia's TV output, it's minimal, meaning that you turn on TV
output and it works but is not full of tons
of little tweaks. If you want that in the drivers by default then Nvidia is
not the TVOutput solution for you.
On the other hand, are you looking for killer TV output tweaks, or are you
looking for an excellent video technology?
If you are looking for excellent video technology, then by all means, keep
your nvidia card and find some programs to
tweak your video output. If you remember, the Chrontel and Phillips chips
(along with the other chips Nvidia has used
over its history) has had some excellent tweaking functions. Right now, in
the latest chips, there is tons of scanline
conversions and flicker filter options, and even features you normally find
on a TV like analog and even DIGITAL comb filtering!
All you have to do is find the right programs which are available on the
internet and use them though I'm sorry I'm not a resource
for direct links to these programs. There is especially one person who has
been making a certain software for years now and always
updates it for the latest and greatest video in/out chips. The most superior
video in/out chip available is the one made by Phillips
and is being used on GF4 cards right now. Every single GF4 card with this
chip, has built in video capture though I've noticed some
manufactures have gotten cheap and didn't include the video in plug, which
is so cheap of them.
Anyhow, good luck guy on your mission. The solution is out there. I'm quite
positive for you.

That's not true. Nvidia is in the business to make us happy, unlike 3dfx
which lied and tried to deceive us
by claiming their technology is much more than an old outdated core with
extra newer stuff cheaply tacked onto
the old core. I'm not bashing 3dfx, I'm simply stating that 3dfx didn't
listen, ATI nor Matrox doesn't listen.
Nvidia listens because they know what we want and is built on providing us
with that. On the other hand, if there
is something you are upset about and did not communicate that grievance to
Nvidia through e-mail, voice mail or a
phone call to the proper people, then you have no right to bitch in public
until you let Nvidia know how you feel.
In fact, Nvidia has been very responsive to my bug reports and product
suggestions and has always given me positive
feedback and rarely did not implement what I asked for in say an API
function call with an extra parameter for controlling
pipeline depth in order to speed up a simple set of functions, say line
drawing or fills.
You have to let yourself known. Just because a bunch of people are upset
doesn't mean Nvidia is aware.
If you call Nvidia (I've been to their headquarters by the way) you will
notice they are just a little building and have
plenty of people there and much time to help you with any gripes or
suggestions you might have, so take it upon yourself
to communicate with them as they will have no way of knowing your problem
and it's not fair to them that you bitch and slander
them in public when you have not made yourself heard by Nvidia. By the way,
Nvidia does not read all the threads in here if any
at all.

Once again, the only reason Nvidia has not made an issue of better TV output
is that no one else has until you.
Let yourself be heard by Nvidia by telling them directly. There is no money
to be lost in you telling Nvidia what
you want and you will be suprised how they will positively respond and
actually implement what your desires are.
They can't please everyone as not everyone can ever be pleased. Some people
are just miserable and bad by nature
but if you make yourself heard by Nvidia, you will find out that they aren't
the mean old giant you thought they were.
They still have time to hear your desires and they do their best to listen
to their customers and implement the customers
desires. Nvidia didn't get on top strictly because of their technology, they
got on top by listening and making note of what
the public wants and giving them more than what they asked for. If you
attempt to contact them, you will still notice that they
live by those rules even as big as they have gotten. Nvidia has done much
for me and can do much for you also, if you only simply
let yourself and your desires be known. You will not see immediate results
but in the next few driver updates you usualy will see
exactly what you wanted, implemented in their drivers. Yes, they do listen,
and take down all the requests of their customers and
are actually supposed to implement these requests unless it will cause a
major issue. It has been done for me and will be done for
you too, if you simply let them know instead of come in here all pissed off
and slander and badmouth them and call them too big for
their pants. No, they have not forgotten you, and they have not gotten too
big for them not to listen to. I think that's your fear,
not reality, that Nvidia is so big that they forget you, the little guy.
Call them up and find out. You will be suprised. :)

The TV-out is for gaming and watching video...for which it has worked quite
well for years. It isn't for typing Word documents.

I could never find a place to post bugs- where do you send them?

Well, you have a choice: ATi. The company's 3D drivers may have been
lackluster (a basic function such as trilinear mipmap interpolation STILL
does work), but its TV-out and DVD-assist features are the best in the
industry.
