Regardless of your pc and how quick it is, which is the better and or
quicker card to buy
the Geforce 3 Ti200 or the newer Geforce 4 MX440 ?
Thanks
I've got a GeForce 4 MX440 and it's OK, but from what i've read the GeForce
3 TI200 is better.

However if the Geforce 3 Ti200 is the same price as Geforce 4mx440 go for
the Geforce 3

A recent issue of PCGamer ran tests with 2 machines, an Athlon 1.2Ghz w/ 384Mb PC-100 and Windows '98 and with a P4-2.4 w/256 Rambus and Windows
2k, and all the available nVidia cards. Here's the 3dmarks they got:
Card 1.2Ghz 2.4Ghz
Voodoo Banshee PCI 1080 -
GF 2 MX 400 2653 2908
GF 4 MX 440 4100 5927
GF3 Ti 200 5090 7039
GF3 (original) 5379 7732
GF3 Ti 500 5600 8528
GF4 Ti 4200(64mb) 6563 9660
GF4 Ti 4400 6856 10256
GF4 Ti 4600 7090 10761
As you can see, the GeForce 3 Ti 200 is much more powerful than the Geforce 4MX 440, and that there's little difference between the GeForce 4
Ti's, especially the 4600 and the 4400.
You can also see what a huge difference the graphics card makes, a machine with a GF4 Ti has almost twice the 3D power of the same with an MX.
It certainly proves that MX is just short for "shit," the Banshee is very close to the GF2 MX's considering it was designed with DirectX 5 and 6
in mind, and can't even run half the tests (such as environmental bump mapping or vertex shader). Taking the GF 2 MX and the Banshee on home
tests with an Athlon 700, and running 3Dmark 2000 (better for the Banshee anyway, 16-bit colour) we got 3dmarks of 1714 vs 2098. My guess is
that on games such as HalfLife and Unreal Tournment, a you're probably better off with a Voodoo 3 than a GeForce 2 MX.
