Confused about G550 dual DVI

It seems like the G550 is always described as "dual DVI with optional
cable", but I don't see people actually using the dual DVI.

Are all G550's dual DVI capable? I see at their web site
(http://shopmatrox.com/usa/products/categories.asp?CategoryID=51&Column=2)
two products: G55+MDHA32DR ($125) and G55MADDA32DB ($150 available
March).

Would the cheaper G55+MDHA32DR work with the dual DVI cable to drive 2
DVI monitors? If so, what is the difference with the G55MADDA32DB ?

The G550 Fact Sheet
(http://www.matrox.com/mga/products/tech_info/g550_factsheet.cfm )
further confuses the issue with this statement:
" Dual DVI support not available on retail version of the Millennium
G550 (option available on bulk cards only)."

How do I know whether a G550 I purchase will support Dual DVI? Have
all G550's since the beginning always supported dual DVI?

Thanks in advance for clearing up all my confusion.

Not all G550 cards have dual DVI capability. The 'standard' boards
(G55MDHA32xx) can drive one DVI panel plus an analogue display
(it can also drive a TV, but that's another story).

If you want to drive two DVI displays, you need the G55MADDA32DB plus
the adapter cable (sorry, no part number to hand).

No, it can't. The G55MADDA card has an LFH-60 connector on the back
plate that connects to a splitter cable, of which there are two sorts.
One has two 15 pin D-sub connectors for analogue monitors (this is in
the box) the other has two DVI connectors for DVI panels (this is
optional). The G55MDHAxxx cards have one DVI connector plus one DVI
connector, thus you cannot use the dual DVI splitter cable with these
boards.

Hope this helps. One more thing - note that to work optimally, the dual
DVI model should feed two DVI panels of the same resolution. The two DVI
output resolutions can't be set separately.

Thanks, Glenn. A very comprehensive answer that clears up
long-standing questions I could not get answered elsewhere.

Hi,

No problem, glad to help. However, now I've read your reply I realised I
made a glaring error in my first explanation - see below.

That should say "The G55MDHAxxx cards have one DVI connector plus one 15
pin D-sub connector...".

Sorry for any confusion!

I must have read it to quickly, because I interpreted what you wrote
to be what you meant. Thanks again.

Here! Works just like a charm with two EIZO L-685 panels. The dual DVI
cable however was pricey here... :(

Cheers,

Mickey.

You said that the G55MDHAxxx card can also give a signal to a tv card,
is it possible to use the DVI the VGA and the TV Out at the same time ?
If thats possible, can i show the same picture on all 3 devices ?

thanks

Daniel

No, It isn't. All G550 variants are limited to two simultaneous outputs.
Parhelia offers three outputs, but you can't run all three in 'clone'
mode with the current software.
