Hi,

Now that there is 4-point surround sound speakers system and then there
is 5-point system. I just wonder if the difference with one more speaker
is obvious to the ears. I don't have any experience with 5.1 system so
may be those who have could share their experience.

Oh, specifically, I'm referring to FPS2000 and DTT 2500. I heard that
DTT2500 has its subwoofer rated at 20W while FPS2000 has 25W. Is that
right? If anyone has experience with them, would you mind sharing your
opinion on their sound quality?

Thanks in advance.

When used with the SB Live for normal audio these are both 4 speaker
systems, left/right front and left/right rear. (4.0, not 4.1 - there's
no discrete subwoofer channel). If the DTT2500 is used with a Dolby
Digital 5.1 stream from DVD then all 5 speakers and the subwoofer are
active, or with a Dolby Surround sound source all 5 speakers and sub are
active to provide 4 channels (front left/right, centre and mono
surround).

There is some DVD software like PowerDVD 2.0 which will downmix a Dolby
Digital track to 4 speakers but it's not the same quality as the full
5.1 track, there is a noticable lack of bass (ie. it seems like the .1
subwoofer or LFE channel is being discarded). The 5th speaker, the
centre, usually goes on top or below the TV/monitor and allows any
speech onscreen to come from the screen, not a few feet to the left and
right of it.

Hi,

For DVD playback, the 5.1 sound is much better, since it's set up so
that your speech comes through your center speaker. It also has a
setting with which to use it as a 4 - speaker set, much like the
FPS2000.
I have heard the non-digital desktop theatre, and that 5.1 setup was
awesome as is the 5.1 setup of a home theatre system at work. It really
does make a big difference with regard to movie playback, and once more
games come out using AC-3 as their playback medium, having 5.1 setup
will help them considerable. There are apparantly a number of titles
using AC-3 and DVD as mediums.

For normal music playback, the DTT2500 will play music through 4
speakers in the 4-point mode, or 5 in the "music" mode.

With regard to Subwoofer output. The rating of the DTT2500 is equal or
higher to the FPS2000, can't quite remember which, don't have my specs
with me. The DTT2500 also has an external out, for a more powerful
subwoofer.

hope this helps.
Welcome to mail me with regard to any other Creative products.
