I'm buying a Sound Blaster Live Value, and am trying to decide which set of
not too expensive 4 point speakers would go better with it... right now I'm
looking at the Creative/Cambridge FPS 1000 and the Altec Lansing ACS-54
Power Play Plus speakers. Any suggestions? Thanks...

I am in the same situation except for I already got a monster MX300 sound
card.

http://www.3dfiles.com/a3dcentral/speakers.shtml has links to reviews for
each set of speakers... right now I think only AGN3D has reviewed the ACS54.

I hope I'm not the only one here who finds this phrase more than just a
little distrubing.

More funny than disturbing.

They both sound pretty good. FPS 1000's have a slightly bigger sub but less
amplifier power (still have lots of punch though). Altec's are zoomier
looking with the black finish and have a nice smooth overall sound. FPS
1000's also have decent sound and offer a subwoofer level control (missing
on the Altecs), and the 1000's also give you a convenient volume control
that can be mounted anywhere. As far as convenience and adjustments the
1000's win hands down (with the exception of the colour coded hookups for
everything on the Altec's which makes setup of the 54's ridiculously easy),
but in regards to sound quality, that is a lot more subjective. I
personally like them both for sound quality but you are going to have to
listen to them personally to figure out which ones "you" like. If it
matters the 1000's are also slightly cheaper (at least in my area). Good
Luck!

I own a Turtle Beach Malibu and a Yamaha SW60XG, and so far I haven't
had any problems with them not being CL-branded cards.

(So, maybe I haven't used Windows in months...but, they work great in DOS
and Linux, so...I'm a happy camper :)
