CX6400 scanner inop after SP2 upgrade

RE: Epson CX 6400 all-in-one: The smartscan function will not work
after reinstalling Windows XP with SP2 upgrade. It is strictly a
driver issue. The printer function works fine. There is always an
error in ESCDV.EXE. It is buggy, junky software!! A year or so ago I
had big problems getting it to work after upgrading to XP Pro SP1....
found that the latest drivers for smartscan wouldn't work/load. It was
inop for months before I found the ORIGINAL installation CDROM with
ORIGINAL drivers. I installed these, worked fine! Now however, after
upgrading to XP Pro SP1, neither the original drivers on the
installation disk nor the latest drivers from Epson will work.
I found this little patch utility that is supposed to fix this
problem by deleting remnants (probably registry references) that
supposedly keep the driver form installing right or loading. This I
got at the website of the co. who wrote the scanner driver software.
I ran that but it did not fix the problem as it was supposed to. I am
so fed up with EPSON !!!!
