I was given a HP Pavillion, it has a Trigem Glendale
mobo. Pretty pissweak, only supports 100 MHz FSB. What
annoyed me was the fan is screaming. I go into BIOS
find hardware monitor, the setting for fan control is
not editable, it says contact your supervisor! WTF?
The supervisor password is cleared.
Then I noticed that the fan is piggybacked onto a disk
power cable, so it had no control anyway. I plugged it
in to the CPU fan pins, and after 20 seconds, it died!
I found a board layout diagram and there is another fan
connector near the CPU. But when I looked, there were just
3 solder pads there, no pins to connect the plug.
There is a third fan jack, put it is other side of the
board, so the fan cable don't reach.
In my recent jobs, I had HP professional-grade workstations.
I was rather dismayed to see that their plebian products
were the dregs of made-in-China crap.
