Does the Trinity S1854 mobo support the Ultra ATA/100 mode 5 spec on the
new hard drives?
I've just been over to their website to look at the data/specs on this
board and they're still showing a ATA66 with a PIO mode 3 & 4 rating for
this board (which seems a bit odd and out of date).
Hmmmm, ...there isn't that Blue ide socket on the board.
I've a "pona" year 2000 board running bios version 7.0
If any knows, the info would be much appreciated!

Hey Maxwell,
Nope, the Southbridge on this mobo only supports the ATA-66 transfer
rates. You can run ATA-100 drives on this board as long as your drives are
backward compatible with ATA-66 IDE Controllers, which most are.

thanks Pontius, ...exactly as it looked at their site (though they've
always been a bit slow at up-dating their info).
arrrggg, ...7200rpm @ ATA/66 just doesn't Do it. Time to toss the
board!

the S1854 has been a remarkably stab

Why don't you do as I did, get a Promise ATA/100 Ultra controller board.

Gary,
'just took a look at the Promise ATA/100 card over at Google, ...'might
be a good $33 option/solution.
Any quirks or problems with the Promise controller on Your machine?

No problems whatsoever. You might want to get the latest firmware for the
board after you install it and the drivers.
