I'm having a problem with the C-Media sound on my Dragon Plus...the icon in
the system tray disappears, the Mixer is not listed in Program Files of
Windows XP, so to access it I have to go through Window Explorer. I have
looked at MSConfig, and "mixer.exe" is listed and checked in Startup
Programs. In Device Manager, "use this device" is checked, and says the
device is working properly. System Events is not listing any errors
concerning the sound.

Could this be a problem with the load sequence of programs on
startup/restart, a driver problem, or hardware problem?

Thanks,
Fitz

You do know that WinXP hides inactive icons in the system tray. Have you
check to see if this is the problem?
WinXP has hidden my C-Media icon in the system tray. If this is what has
happened to yours there should be a round button at the end of the system
tray with an arrow on it. When you click on this arrow all hidden icons will
be shown for a few seconds. If this is the case when you click on the icon
for the mixer it will stay active for some time, till XP desides its become
an inactive icon again. To keep it shown all the time go to Apearance and
Themes in the control panel. From there click on Taskbar and Start Menu then
click on Customize and there you can set just how you want each icon to be
handled.

Thanks for the reply, but I have the "hide inactive icons" feature disabled.
I think the problem is with XP or the load sequence, but not sure how to
correct it. Right now, it back, and I have no idea why.

Thanks,
Fitz

Setting it to Disabled doesn't mean it won't still do it. It is an XP
problem. Try going back and setting the C-Media mixer to "always show" I've
had to do this with a couple of them and sometimes it still hides them.
