Hi all,

I have a Soyo SY-6BA+III board which I tried to upgrade the BIOS on.

I downloaded the latest version (file name 6ba32ba6.bin) from the Soyo
website, and tried to flash it. It came back with 'Unknown Flash Type' and
refused to flash.

The Soyo FAQs suggest running AWDFLASH with the /f switch, but this did not
help. They also suggested using a different version of the flash software
(v7.90).

Version 7.90 recognised the flash type correctly, and proceeded to flash the
BIOS. During the write process, the third quarter of the writes all failed.
When the PC rebooted, hey presto, black screen. No beep, nothing.

I changed the video card and found to my relief that the Boot Block loader
was still there and I am able to boot from a floppy. However, I still can't
find a BIOS that will work.

Are there any known issues with this board? The Soyo site says nothing, and
Googling for it brought no joy.

Any input greatly appreciated.

Chris.

if you have saved the previous bios before the flash, try flashing it back
after booting using the boot block feature. If you dont have it , download
the old bios that you had from soyo and flash it back .
if that fails also, then you have to take out the bios chip and ship it to
soyo for flashing.
I found usefull info on www.soyo.de where i finally sent mine for
reflashing.
I dont know if they still do that or there is another site in europe for
soyo support

I had the exact same problem a week ago with a Soyo 6VBA+IV. NOTICE
TO ALL!!! BEWARE OF SOYO BIOS UPDATES! This seems a bit too odd that
you descvribed the EXACT same problem I had (needed to run diff.
version of AWDFLASH utility from Soyo's site, got bad blocks later on
in update, etc.) and I'm using a different board. However, I can't
get this machine to boot at all...any suggestions? I've been waiting
a week for a response from Soyo USA...nothing...

Soyo is horrible. They want $15 to flash the chip or $35 to replace
the board.
This is a scam! If it was an obscure accident, things happen and I
understand. But we have a group of people here with *3 different Soyo
boards* that followed Soyo's steps with Soyo's updates and software
and the same results.

I will never buy a Soyo product again.
