I got a K8N ultra from www.geeks.com. I installed a new 3200+ cpu, 2x512 MB
of working RAM, and a new x800XL video card. I'm using an Ultra 350W power
supply for testing because it has a 24 pin power plug. After a long delay,
I got the computer to show the bios splash screen and then it tried to boot.
So good so far. So I hooked up the hard drive and all was still good. So I
installed a CD-RW and I got no video signal. So I started removing things
in reverse order. CD...no video signal. HD...no video signal. Swapped
around the RAM...no video signal. Swapped the PCI-E video card with a PCI
video card...no video signal. Clear the CMOS...no video signal. Reseated
the CPU...no video signal. Finally disconneted all fans but the cpu
fan...no video signal. I don't get any beeps because this motherboard
doesn't have the connector solder in for the case speaker.

So did this motherboard die a quick death? I've seen a lot of problems in
the forums about no video signal. I'd appreciate any help I can get.

It seems odd you singularly could point at the optical drive as the hook up that caused the machine to stop working. IDE components of the past weren't know to 'fry' anything on the motherboard or PSU, the worst is that they wouldn't have been seen or they would cause spotty performance for any slaves or masters in the chain.

BUT, I would say the PSU was overloaded
