Hi,

I've searched for info in this forum, but I have some questions. Am I
correct in remembering that the only difference between the KK266 and
the KK266-R is that the "R" model comes with a RAID controller? If so,
then the information for the KK266-R would apply to the KK266.

I believe the board is Revision 1.2 (too lazy to tear off the cover and
look).

Also, will I need to flash the BIOS?

Yes that's true, why by just a coincidence I'm using a Iwill kk266+
right now! (grin)

Yes, definatily flash the bios! I got the newest stuff
off of the Iwill website. It's pretty stable with the
newest revision bios dated; kkp0826.bin.

If you have the Iwill kkr266+, then they have a revision bios
dated; kkrp0826.bin

I didn't by the Raid because it's an expensive overhead that
ports a minimal increase in speed over a regular system without it.

Oh, about the fastest cpu, I have a Athlon Thunderbird, (as
I remember, running 1330 meg bus). It's a hot runner and overclocking
it you would want a pretty good case. I bought this system new
in 2001/2002. Since then it's been stable with a good bios and
although I've had problems they have been mostly my own fault.
As I remember there was a 1400/1500 (etc.) Thunderbird chips,
get yourself a 1500! It's fast enough if you want to do most
tasks!

I would make sure you would put Service Pack 2 with windows.
And as far as linux, it runs fine on it.

I'm always going to keep this system, but I am moving up into
a Abit/Asus board K8N neo4 type with a 3000 64 bit athlon.
My system is too slow! When I had it up to 1500 for a short
while it was nice and fast. Need a upgrade, (sniff).
