There have been numerous postings on newsgroups that the ATI Radeon 8500
128mb series is too-power hungry for use in older BX chipset AGP 2x
motherboards.
I am presently using an AIW Radeon 7500 64mb card with no problems on the
older Gigabyte GA-6BA board. It's even a old ver. 2.5 (without the newer
ver. 3.0 Voodoo jumper designed to give the AGP slot extra electrical power
.... according to the Gigabyte specs). My Gigabyte board predates the BX6
v.2 by about a year.
The AGP slots on these two Intel BX Chipset boards are only AGP 1.0 Spec (2X
only), however according to ATI it should work, but they've been wrong
before. Just because AGP Spec 1.0 2X slots still fit the 8500 128mb series
and it says it will work on the box, does not mean they will run properly.
Thanks.
