Hi,

I have a GA 6BXDS rev 1.8 and was wondering what are the fastest cpus
for it. I just want to use slot1 processors and want to use two cpus.

I read in some old postings about some people who used a PIII 850E and
even a PIII with 1GHz.
Since the manual doesn't say anything about these cpus how do I know to
set the jumpers on the board?

Does anybody have to 1GHz cpus running on this board? If so do you
have/had any troubles with it (temperature or so)?

I could possibly get either two 850s or two 1GHz cpus. The description
of these cpus is:
100 MHz FSB
SECC2
32/256KB
Will these cpus run on that board? Or do I have to look for more
details?

Thanks for any help!

The clock multiplier is pre-set in the CPU and the motherboard automatically
detects and adjusts itself to the required setting - overriding any
configuration you have made with the dip switches.

I ran x2 850's for a month without rebooting. I doubt if 1GHz would cause
aproblem if the case is properly cooled.

Sounds okay? ...I doubt if there is more than one variety of 1GHz 100FSB
chip.

These setting are automatic with the CPUs, you don't need to touch the
jumpers. You do need Bios f3 and above I believe. I'm running f4.

Yup, I've had two 1GHz CPUs running for the last month without any
obvious problems.

These look fine.

Just got a copy of this old board (GA-6XDS rev 1.7) and I though
i would start with upgrading to the latest bios but I was unable
to find anything newer the the f1 bios on
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/support/intel440bx.htm#link6bxds
althoug ppl in newsgroups seems to be talking about f3 and f4 just
as you do.

So I just have a simple question, where do you find these bios ?

/t.

So anyone know what the fastest PIII I can rund in a BXDS Rev 1.7???
Mine had the F1 bios installed, but when I tried using Dual 850's, the
system only detects them as 800MHz.

If anyone can tell me where to find or can email me a newer beta bios please
do.
Thanks.

You are right...there is nothing greater than f1 for the 6BXDS.

I have 6BXD (without the Scsi), so I'm afraid I can't help you any
further. Seems bizarre that this Scsi version of the board is so
behind when it comes to Bios upgrades.

F1 works well for Windows 2000 and Linux, even in ACPI mode. My board is
revision 1.7 as well, running duel celeron 366 overclocked to 550MHz.
Just set MPS to 1.4 instead of 1.1.

OK, great, I'll go with the f1 bios then and thanks Andrew for clearing
the issu.

Apperently piii 800 runs, as posted by Dong Haw Kim. Seems fast enough ;)

Yes, I can confirm the rev1.7 BXDS can run Piii 800's not sweat.

Are you sure about this m/b revision? I was told by Giga-Byte that
revisions prior to 1.8 couldn't support Coppermines due to the voltage
regulator. Supposedly only revs 1.8+ can handle voltages lower than 2.0.

Please confirm that Coppermines will really work with rev 1.7 boards. I'd
hate to buy a couple of Coppermine CPUs only to find that they won't work
in my 1.7 6BXDS.

Thanks.

hi there,

is that the SLOT-1 PIII or the socket version? In the latter case, which
slot-converter are you using?

thanx in advance,

If your really worried about a small voltage overclock,

Powerleap sells a converter that brings the voltage down to the
correct level. Buy directly from powerleap and get the rev2 of the
PLi-P3. It can drop a 2V feed from the mainboard down to spec
voltage.
