GA7zm Problems

Optical intellimouse plugged into one port and an ACER 1240ut scanner on the
other. I'm running the latest VIA drivers and keep all drivers and BIOS
updated regularly. This problem has only recently begun to occur-
As soon as I try to scan (or prescan),the mouse pointer freezes , Mirascan
freezes and I need to reset,although the PC itself still functions
Windows detects the scanner and lists it as working in Device Manager.
IRQ steering is functioning properly
There are no faults listed with the USB devices
The scanner works perfectly on another computer
I have tried an external USB hub to no avail
There are NO conflicts whatsoever
Other USB devices work fine
Now,when I hooked up the external USB hub,the scanner worked for a day and
has not worked since. I have tried it in 2 other PCs and it works fine.
I have tried everything I know of ( I am a qualified repairer) This is MY
PC,not a client's. I am at my wits end trying to nut this one out. None of
my Techie buddies have been able to come up with a solution either.
I would like to avoid having to buy a new motherboard if possible but at the
moment,seems the only option. I bought this one 2nd hand from a mate and
it's been serving me very well up until now,so I can't return it on
warranty. (I could -but that wouldnt be ethical)
HAs anyone experienced a similar problem or does anyone have an idea what's
caused this?
A solution would be nice :)
