Last night I attempted to play QuakeII and Halflife. Both OpenGL and
Direct3D were not working correctly. I was getting (at most) 2FPS.
Sound was stuttering and so on. Really pissed me off.
I tried to reinstall the drivers. No go there. Came across the same
problems people have been posting about in here. Full Temp dir, not
able to change resolutions or color depth, removing drivers,
reinstalling different versions, and nothing worked. That is until I
formatted my damn hard drive and reinstalled Win98. And you know
what? Everything started working fine. Using the Asus 2.16 drivers
now, and they rock. So, if all else fails, wipe the drive and
reinstall. If that is not an option, then you don't have a good
backup system. You should always be prepared to reinstall... you
never know when your hard drive is going to fail, or you are hit with
a new fangled virus that your protection software doesn't catch.
My system is working better than it has in a while now, and I am glad
I reinstalled it.

And as a side note, the AsusTNT works without a hitch with a Diamond
Monster 3D (the original). I bought a used one for $40 CDN just in
case I come across a Glide only game I feel like playing.

Hi,

Just installed my ASUS V3400 SGRAM. I also managed to install the 2.16
drivers after first deinstalling the original drivers. Everything set for 120
Hz refreshrate including direct 3D!. And it is working with 120 HZ until I
make MS Flightsim 98 fullscreen using direct3D then I only have 60 HZ
whatever I do. How can I change the refreshrate or make FS use the
refreshrate I installed with the ASUS drivers?

Kind regards,
Reinier de Groot

Hi,

I have installed a refreshhrate of 120 Mhz for my resolutions including
direct3D. But whenever I start a Direct3D game it sswitches to 60HZ whatever
resolution Itry, it always starts in 60Hz. I have my games use the direct3D
videodriver from ASUS 2.16 driver collection.

Please advice!

Regards,

Direct 3D applications set the resolution, refresh rate and number of colors
to values the programmer decided to use.
Not much options to change this ...
