Hello to everyone from Berlin, Germany
I have an P55T2P4 Rev. 3.0 with 128 MB EDO-RAM. Coast-Modul and TAG-RAM
is installed, so that the whole memory is cached. The Processor is an
Pentium 200MMX. OS is Windows95B. All works well. Now I have the idea to
upgrade. I have done the following things: Buy an AMD K6-2+ 500, Flash
BIOS to 0207-02 Beta, Install the Windows95B-Patch for K6-Processors.
The Jumper stands on 2,0V Core and the multiplier on 75 x 2. I have
read, that the processor interprets this as 75 x 6. I install the
K6-2+500 and starts. Windows 95B runs well, but only a very little bit
faster than with the 200MMX. BIOS show me an MMX Processor with 262 MHz.
I tested the CPU with new programs, WCPUID Ver. 2.8 and also CPUInfo -
V 2.0 Beta 2. They show me correct the K6-2+500, but only with a
multiplier 3,5 and with a speed of 262 MHz. Also the cache: I see Level
1 with 32 KB and Level 2 with 128KB. Someone told me, the cache on the
motherboard becomes Level 3. The test-programs show me, there is no
Level 3. And now the questions from a helpless PC-user: What have I do
wrong or what have I to do to get the speed of 75 x 6 = 450 MHz? And
where is my cache on the board? Is there a newer BIOS somewhere for me?
The BIOS 0207-02 Beta does not show something about write-allocation or
write combining. Or have I to removed the TAG-RAM? Need the K6-2+500
excactly a FSB 100 or runs he also at 75 x 6 with not so much
performance? Can someone help me? Please excuse my not so perfect
English, I've learned it at school, this is 37 years ago.

I can tell you that the 207_2 beta BIOS does not enable Write Allocate and
there is none that does. You can do that with a utility K6WAON.EXE in
Autoexec.bat found at
http://www.geocities.com/liamsay/

However, for the moment this is not your problem. Have you tried 6*66?
Does that work.

I understand the TAG RAM is not needed when you have the L2 cache on the
CPU.

Have you seen Kalle's site that explains all these issues at
http://www.jump.net/~lcs/kalle/index.html
or this site
http://www.crosswinds.net/~flozo/t2p4site/main.html

... for the advice of the k6waon.exe. This is helpful. The site of Kalle and
the other site I read before I buy the AMD K6-2+500 and so I don't understand
my problems. Greetings from Berlin, Germany Franz Reimann

Here is a link to an excellent german site. Look down the page and download
"CPUIDLE 5.6" . It is a zip file. Unzip it and let it optimize your K6-2+ or
K6-3+ cpu, by right clicking on the tray icon and then selecting "options"
It's easier to work with versus K6waon and does more including keep your new
cpu cool.
Don't worry about what the Bios shows at startup, it doesn't recognize the
K6-2/3+ cpu's, but your system will work fine anyway, except for the WA
function which degrades performance by 30% when it is not turned on.

Here is a nice link to Tom's Hardware on the k6-2+ for your info

http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/00q3/000713/index.html

Bios 0207.002 is the latest bios for the P2T4. Your chip should run fine at
83Mhz X 6 (multiplier set to 2 as you mention) and maxes out the capability
of the board at 500MHZ. I'd leave the TAG Ram chip in the board, it won't
hurt anything. As for your L1 cache you will notice the WCPUID program
breaks out your cache as I-cache 32KB and D-cache 32KB, so it is all there.
L2 cache of 128KB is correct for your cpu. The 512KB of on-board mobo cache
does become L3 level cache, but ver 2.7 of the WCPUID program that i'm
familiar with doesn't have a value for L3 cache.

Here's that missing link to the Cpuidle website. Sorry

... was a broken jumper. Now the CPU runs well at 75 x 6 = 450 MHz. Later on I
try 83 x 6. Greetings from Berlin, Germany

Sure it does! Go to Tomshardware site. I am running a k63+ 450 and it runs
great. I am also running cpuidle to enable write allocation. P55t2p4 rev3.1

I ran my T2P4 Rev 3.1 at 6 X 83 (500) with one modification. I set the
IDE HDDs to PIO Mode 3 in BIOS.

Please, excuse my English, Franz. I live in North America.
