I am just putting this together and haven't installed a hard drive or CD ROM
yet. I wanted to try booting to a floppy system disk when the machine was this
far.
I have a set of earphones connected to the rear audio out so I can hear the
Vocal Post Messages.
On power up the system emits a continuous high pitch note from the case
speaker. It's not short beeps , it is continuous. It will go through it's system
check and the Vocal Message says that it is now booting , and it completes
booting from the floppy to the A:/ prompt and seems to work fine to this point.
Yet the speaker continues to sound. This sound is only from the system speaker
not through the rear port via the earphones.
I have insulated the board from the metal standoffs, moved the RAM , removed
the RAM, removed the Vid card, floppy and the 1394 cable and still the speaker
sounds. The Vocal message will tell me I have a RAM failure if I remove it.
I have checked my jumpers and downloaded the online manual and have the jumpers
set to default according to it. The BIOS shows a CPU temp of 50 C and normal
voltages.
I am baffled any ideas ?
TIA

Did you check the polarity of the speaker connector?

If you never heard about it try this for understanding the concept of
speaker polarity:

Why being so offensive, Paul? It's more likely leakage voltage to cause this
problem,
but I don't see a single reason for your reaction.
Lars
thanks again
