I have an ASUS PCI/I-P54NP4D motherboard that I needed to replace the
hard disk on, so I bought a Western Digtial 20 GB (200BB) drive and a
Promise Ultra-100 PCI controller card. But, I find that on that
motherboard, the HD cannot be seen at all!

I've made sure I have the latest BIOS (downloaded & flashed it), but no
matter what I've tried, the DH is not visible on that motherboard.

I've taken the Promise card, cable and HD to a friend's machine &
everything worked fine. Now I'm beginning to believe that the PCI bus
is the problem, but I'm uncertain. The Promise website says that the
card is only compatible with PCI 2.1 slots, but I'm not sure what the
revision level is on this motherboard? I've misplaced the manual on the
motherboard (I'm actually moving) and the ASUS website information
doesn't have this level of information.

Am I missing something in the CMOS setup? Does anyone have any
suggestions or provide some insight into what's going on here before I
simply trash the motherboard and get another (more recent) one?

TIA,
Larry

I have an ASUS P3B-F with a Promise Ultra 100. The way that I was able to
get it to work was to set the boot device as a scsi device. Not sure if
this will help you, but you might try it. Other than that you can go to the
promise website and download the manual and their are some good tech tips on
their site as well.
