I'm going to build a new system with the P5A-B motherboard. I will use an
AMD K2-II 300 mz cpu with 64K ram, some type of ultra ide harddrive of about
4 gig, a cd rom, and a good 2D video card. The major use will be for web
browsing, word processing, and playing with overclocking just for the heck of
it. No real gaming is anticipated, but 3D capability would be nice. Has
anyone built a system that works well (i.e. no reasonably irresolvable
incompatiblity problems) as I don't really care what the other components
are, just so they work. I will greatly appreciate the wisdom of the readers
of this group! Thanks, JEH

I'd personally go for the matrox agp card (g200, i think)...It's a
pretty fast card, that's not too expensive, but you'll need more that
64K or ram :)

I bulit my system around the P5A-B, works great but I really wish I would have
gotten the
P5-A instead, the PCI slots disappered real quick on the the P5A-B.

If all you are going to use the machine for is web browsing and word processing
then I
would go with a stealth II s220 necx (www.necx.com) has them cheap (w/$30 mail
in rebate). I still use my stealth II, although not as fast as the new video
cards, it is still respectable for moderate game playing.

Just be sure and get good reliable PC100 ram, 64meg at least, 128 meg if you
plan on haveing the system for any length of time. And get as big a hard drive
as you can afford, prices wont stay this low forever.

If you want to get a system to overclock, why don't you go with a Celeron
300A? They are outstanding for OCing, and they're pretty cheap too.

If you buy an ASUS p5a, DO NOT buy a graphics card that uses the 740
chip set. I'm sure the ASUS card will work OK but others may not. I
bought the Real3D Starfighter and it doesn't work.
