P5PB-E/4L with ASMB3-SOL PLUS (V3), most recent firmware. Upon fresh
powercycling, the combination works fine.
1) However, doing warmstart or Ctrl+Alt+Delete, the blinking light on the
addon card vanishes and no more IPMI functionality is available.
=> Is this normal or should I return the card or mainboard?
2) Additionally, I have never seen the card resetting the PC when it hung
although the watchdog is enabled in the firmware.
Thankyou for any help.

The whole is the sum of its parts, plus one or more bugs

FYI: I've logged a call with Asus support.
The first answer came within 24hrs. I shall update the firmware of the
card. Shit for them, I already did that ;-)
Now it's already 48hrs without any comment... let's see...
The name of the motherboard in the title of your article is wrong.
It is P5BP-E/4L.
The Asus forum for your server motherboard is here.
http://vip.asus.com/forum/topic.aspx?board_id=5&model=P5BP-E%2f4L&SLanguage=en-us
I can find one doc, which mentions the card to use.
http://www.asus.com/999/html/share/9/txt/11/rmc_support.pdf
P5BP-E/4L ASMB3-SOL PLUS(V3)
I'd start by verifying the exact identify of the IPMI card,
and making sure it is actually intended for the server motherboard.

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/server/ASMB3-SOL_PLUS(V3)/Manual/e4086_asmb3-sol_plus_v3.zip
ASMB3-SOL PLUS(V3)
IPMI Features IPMI 2.0-compliant
System Watchdog Timer (ASR)
LED BMC Heartbeat
The manual mentions a loss of +5VSB as a reason for the LED
to go off. Or corrupted firmware, which is more unlikely.
Switching off the power supply at the back of the computer,
will cause the LED to go off.
You may have to ask Asus for firmware, since I don't see any
listed on the download page for ASMB3-SOL PLUS(V3).

Seen that, been there

the +5VSB is very interesting. By now, I've only considered corrupted
firmware. With that information, maybe the OS shuts down completely the PC,
including the 5V Standby voltage. The power supply is a Chieftech, which is
capable and designed to deliver 5V standby voltage.

as it will cause any other light to go off ;-)

Asus contacted me and proposed further investigation. I will follow that
route.
Thankyou very much, I value your input highly.
Merry Christmas!

well, I tested this one as well and have been able to WOL the server. Thus,
5V SB must work.
After some nitpicking, the ASMB3 SOL v3 was declared dead by Asus and
finally swapped by ARS. The new one was received as advanced replacement
and works flawlessly after firmware update (that there is; plus the card is
supported for the P5BP-$/4L, though not a particular good choice, the ASMB3
iKVM would have been better).
