"I'd stay away from Abit Slokets"
(Asus P2B rev1.02/ Cel566 @ 850 1.8v)
My computer was working fine, then, I rebooted to the WinNT logon,
(CtrlAltDel screen) and went to eat dinner, 45min later I came back
and system was locked up. I rebooted and got nothing, no power,
no juice. I unplugged everything and waited 10 min, then tried it again...
still nothing. I found after stripping my computer that my Abit SloketIII
adapter
had seemed to be slightly melted near the bottm right of the socket.
My case still did not power up.
This was probably due to lack of fans, 235w pwrsupply/crappy case.
Big heat-sink Cel-fan, standard case fan (1)
I splurged and bought an Antec 300w ATX, real sturdy, thicker metal.
I'll get a new sloket today (Iwill/Asus) hopefully my Cell566 is ok.
using my PII233 @ 300mhz currently, (good to have a backup!)
just thought I'd pass it on.

I think my celII566 fried my Abit Sloket.
The Cell566 won't post in a Tyan Trinity s1854 370 socket either.
Bummer.
Back to a PII233 @ 300mhz/100bus

the socket shouldn't be melting.

sounds like poor contact between your cpu and the heatsink.

some socket/heatsinks don't match up well. hold it sideways when you attach
the heatsink and visually check for gaps or misalignment. make sure you
have a good contact.

other good stuff...
