I have a P2B-LS which came with BIOS rev 1006 already installed, which
is the latest released BIOS. I'm having troubles with a Yamaha
CDRW4416S (SCSI) which prevents Win98 from booting properly. I have
flashed the Yamaha's firmware to 1.0e but it doesn't seem to have
helped.
At the moment, I have it set at SCSI ID 2, with my Seagate drive at SCSI
ID 0.
I'm wondering if upgrading to the 1007 BETA BIOS revision is:
a) likely to harm my system
b) likely to solve any problems
c) going to prevent me from downgrading to 1006 if it causes any
problems.
I've tried the obvious such as cooling the drive and checking
termination. I have once got Win98 to setup and boot when it was linked
with a Plextor CD-ROM, but then I wanted to swap them over in terms of
SCSI IDs and it didn't work, so I removed the Yamaha and it worked
again, so I tried having only the Yamaha and it failed. I therefore
think it could be a problem with the Yamaha, or the cabling.
If anyone has any insights, I'd be grateful.
Thanks and regards

Yup - all up to date.
As a matter of interest here are the configs which (don't) work...
These work:
Plextor ID=2/Term Plextor ID=1/Term -controller-
Yamaha ID=1 -controller- Seagate HD ID=0
-controller- Seagate HD ID=0 LVD Terminator
Seagate HD ID=0 LVD Terminator
LVD Terminator
These don't work:
Plextor ID=1/Term Yamaha ID=2 (or 1)/Term
Yamaha ID=2 -controller-
-controller- Seagate HD ID=0
Seagate HD ID=0 LVD Terminator
LVD Terminator
The first of the configs which don't work is the optimal one for me.
In cases where it doesn't work, Win98 locks up during boot with the SCSI
bus light constantly on.
Thanks,
Alisdair

Naturally, I'll give it a try - but what's the significance of this (bar
the fact that it's the only other ID I can specify with a single jumper
apart from 1 and 2)? I assume you mean on the Yamaha drive?
Thanks
Hmmm... *goes to turn on the machine* only things I can see there are
"Award Plug and Play BIOS v1.0A", and the Adaptec version is up in the
2's. The manual is revision 1.05 E265. I've had a look over the mobo
and can't spot anything which looks like that - I hope I haven't missed
it somewhere obvious ;-)
If it helps, the mobo was bought January 1999.
