I have the same setup and am doing a two part fix-up. 1) More CPU cooling -
installed a Tennmax Mega7 hs/f. This thing is gigantic. It looks to have
lowered the temp by 20 degrees +. 2) Get rid of VidCard heat. Small hs/f on
them leaves a lot of heat. Will first try a slot fan to pull that heat right
out at the source.

I have the same setup. You might consider putting an extra case fan to
increase air flow into and out of the case.

yeah, even without a case fan and with just a standard cooler those cpu's
should not be that high of a temp. What you might wanna try doing is
downloading the latest version of PC proble off of the unofficial P5A site. If
it's still high, you might wanna return it for a new one. You shouldn't have
to totally tweak out the thing to get it to run at normal temps......

Odd. I have a P5A-B with the same CPU. I use only the medium sized generic
fan that I was using for my old Cyrix 200 a few years back. I don't use
termal paste and the temp in my country is around 33 deg in the afternoon!
The temp has never hit above 55 deg (using probe 2.02). With rain 1.0 in the
background, the CPU temp is always less than 45 deg....maybe you have a
remarked chip?
In anycase, you should try Rain 1.0 (it's free ...not sure about ver
2.0)...and maybe experiment lowering your voltage to 2.3 V. (does not always
work! .. but I did ran my previous K6-2 333@350 Mhz using 2.1 V)..

good luck

Mother board temp is too high 30Deg C should be max
recommended CPU temp 60-65 Deg C max

Use CPUIdle or Waterfall

Didn't say if there was a fan on the CPU :-)

The K6-2 Core voltage setting is wrong....the K6-2 requires 2,2V.
The K6-III (400 and 450 Mhz) requires 2,4 V.

Set the voltage back to 2,2V and it should run much cooler.

No, K6-2-450 "v2.4" was exactly label on the top of CPU.
I am using it.

I have a heating problem with my K6-2 450 (basically I have a crappy
heat sink). Until I solve this problem, I'm running it at 400 Mhz and
2.0 volts. Its running a few degrees cooler.

Cheers

Does your PSU-fan blow or suck, i should "suck" the hot air out of the
case

Whats is the recomended CPU temperature then ?

I have a P5a too which is "normaly" around 60 deg. celsius.
Its also starts to beep from time to time for a minute or so but
I dont know the reason for it. MotherBoard Monitor gives me also no clue
whats right or wrong.
I've tried to find the acceptable temperatures and voltages in
the manuals without success.

I think that PC Probe is way off. Try this.
http://hmonitor.hypermart.net/
PC Probe used to show mine as running at 120 deg F or more when using my
system.
With this it's never been over 120 at all.
It runs at about 87-89 F at idle.

Have a good heat sink fan ie ElanVital, 2 ElvanVital case fans (one in and one
out) and "Rain or CPUidle" installed....the CPU temp will be around 38-40C at
ambient of 28-30C

The recommended max temperature for a K6-2/450 is 65ºC according to the
thermal guidelines published by AMD (available on their site).
I've had trouble with mine being too hot as well, but airflow management in
the case seems to be the key. My friend has a K6-III/450 that runs cooler
on his P5A. Go figure.

You should buy a chassis fan. My cpu (k6-3 450) in my p5a cooled about 10 to 15
degrees.. It was first also something like 60, and now something like 48.

Try this instead and see what your readings are.
http://hmonitor.hypermart.net/

Also make VERY sure that your Heatsink is sitting fully on the CPU.

1007A sucks. my system became unstable and made my cpu always 15 degrees
celcius hotter. went back to 1007. works fine.

I have a k62 and k63 both are 450. BOTH are 2.4v core...

I'm not sure what you mean by a 'sucking' fan, but:

From what I've read, the "best" cooling setup for a ATX tower case is:
- a chassis fan in the front, blowing air INTO the case
- a chassis fan in the back, blowing air OUT of the case
- the PSU-fan arranged such that it, too, blows air OUT of the case

That way, cool air is blown into the case at a very low point. With
the heating from the components the warm air rises to the top of the
case and is then blown out of the case by the PSU fan and the second
chassis fan.

Some PSU fans blow air into the case. in that case you can usually
turn it around to reverse airflow.

BTW, I didn't get much of a CPU cool-down with adding chassis fans
but my disks temperature and the mobo temperature went down. What
really led to a drop of CPU temperature (by 12 deg. Celsius) was
apllying thermal gelly between heat sink and CPU itself.

So long,
Martin
