Hello Everybody,

Reading all the postings on this news group makes you understand ASUS
is having some difficulties with their Athlon motherboard.

I have two of them:

* Computer won't start at first boot, have to restart it 1 time first.
* The pc speaker is making lots of noises (like an old computer game).

Does ASUS have any support for the Athlon motherboards ? Do they answer
email questions regarding this motherboard ?

Also, I have seen that some other motherboard mfg. are using like an
OEM ASUS K7M motherboard, with an newer BIOS (1020 - saw it on a German
Athlon page).

Anyone that has any thoughts about all this ?

PS. Sorry about my bad english! DS.

/Henrik - Sweden

yes these particular problems are starting to be reported
with regularity. They have not answered any of my requests for support.
My distributor which is one of the biggest in north america has told me
they are having the same problems and are trying to work it out.

It seems like the beeping problem is very common in sweden... Got your mobo
from green?

Anyway. The beeping seems to have something to do with the mobo's "hardware
monitoring setup". Try setting all values in the "hardware monitor" part of
your setup to "ignore". Then there will be ...... silence....!

If this works. Please tell me which one of the settings in the setup is
required to make the computer silence. I only hava a cpu-fan connected to
the mobo. Still i needed both mobo temperature and another one ignored
before the speaker went silent. Although the temeperature was like 30
degrees celsius or something.. not much ...

Spoked with my distributor this morning, they are contacting asus. I will be
informed when a new bios has been releeased to fix this problem.

Hello Tomas,

I guess it would be best if I post this in english (even though it had
worked with swedish) :]

I got my motherboard, cpu and cpu fan from Green yes, both Hattelco and
Microtronica (two other big distributors in Sweden) didn't seem to have
this board when I needed it.

I reported this "bug" to a female at Green (I think her name was Anita)
and she was going to investigate the "bug", this was their first batch
of K7M motherboards so there was no one that had tested it when I
called 8 o'clock at morning (on the day after they had got there hands
on their first batch) - still I haven't heard any news from them (has
been 2-4 days from now, can't actually remember).

I guess we have bought the same hardware ? I only have an Cooler Master
CPU fan, I have tried to set all the "Hardware Monitoring" to ignore,
at first I thought this made the irritating sound go away, but it
didn't, it's just longer between the beeps... *argh* :]

I have emailed both ASUS Taiwan and ASUS "International", I haven't got
any answers yet, if I will get any, I'll post it, hope you will do the
same for me!

Take care!

/Henrik

Sure i will. I talked with Anita first to but then got switched over to
Petter... I reported the problem this thursday. On friday I phoned again and
told him about how i got the sound to dissapear. What revision of the mobo
do you have? (I have 1.04, from their second batch)

One thing that was strange for me to was that i couldn't get their normal
PC100 128 Mb DIMMS run with the board, it would only detect half memory
amount. (CHIP ID SPD-646V4-8 .. that means 8 ns right?) No mather timings i
used... So i then tried a couple of old 100 Mhz modules from micron
48LC8M8A2 ) and they worked just fine....

I haven't had the problem with the board not booting from a cold-boot
though... What powersupply and graphic-card do you use? ( i use greens
PS300W and a G400 dualhead 32 Mb) works fine. No problems booting ever.

I had the beeping problem with the 1004 bios, and have read of others with
the same problem with this bios. The 1006 bios seems to fix it.

1006 was avaialable for download on www.slota.com if you can find it, mail
me and I'll send it to you

Hello Tomas,

I also have the 1.04 PCB version of the motherboard, how did you get
the sound to dissapear ? I tried doing what you recommended (ignoring
all the hardware monitoring) - but it didn't help much. Then I just
took out the cable to the PC speaker.

I still have the problems that my computer doesn't start at the first
time, sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't.

I have an PowerMan FSP300-GT (in an AOpen case), AMD recommends this
powersupply on their homepage. And for the graphics card, I have tried
several, both PCI and AGP. All of them have been AMD recommended.

I also have the memory problem, just finding half of the actual size.

I had just setup my K7M for about 2 weeks and I do not have this problem.
Currently, I
am using all the hardware monitor "enable". My bios - AMI, rev. 62710.
