I just got one of the new Aopen FC-PGA Converter Cards (slocket) today,
and already I have a question about setting the vcore voltage. How do
you set the jumpers to get the full range of advertised voltages?

The box the card came in says "Adjustable Vcore from 1.3v to 3.5v with
0.1v step."

The specification sheet at the Aopen web site,
http://english.aopen.com/products/mb/fc-pga.htm under Key Features says
the following:

"Adjustable Vcore from 1.3v to 3.5v with 0.1v/0.05v step

The adjustable Vcore provides the flexibility for overclockers to adjust
the CPU external frequency speed. Users may have 31 sets of Vcore
voltage selections from 1.3v to 3.5v by 0.1v/0.05v step, to assure the
future CPU compatibility and overclocking stability."

Now, all of this leads me to believe that I can manually set the cpu
vcore to somewhere within the range of 1.3v to 3.5v. However, the
documentation that came with the card has a little table that shows
jumper positions for only 12 vcore settings: 1.80, 1.85, 1.90, 1.95,
2.00, 2.05, 2.10, 2.20, 2.30, 2.40 and 2.50.

What gives? Can I set the vcore to ranges shown on the Aopen web page
spec sheet and the box or not? And if so, what are the jumper postions?

As a side note, I also have an Iwill Slocket II, and it is very similar
to the Aopen FC-PGA card. In fact, the jumper settings shown in the
Iwill Slocket II reference table are the same as those shown for the
Aopen board for the 1.80, 1.85, 1.90, 1.95, 2.00, 2.05, 2.10, 2.20,
2.30, 2.40 and 2.50 voltages. Does this mean the jumper positions are
the same for all voltages 1.3 - 3.5?

I want to use this Aopen FC-PGA Converter card to mount a PIII 750 mhz
FC-PGA chip in an AX6B slot 1 motherboard. Does anyone else out there
have one of these Aopen converters? Maybe I should just use the Iwill
Slocket II, even though the Intel docs say that converter is not
supported.

Carey,

Can't speak on the AOpen version from expereince but you'll probably
find that if you set one of the voltages (eg 1.80) it allows you to
adjust it in the bios up to the next step or thereabouts (eg up to
1.90). Works this way for me on Abit slotKET!!! on AOpen AX6BC Pro
anyway :-) (the available range probably depends on your mb and bios)

Well I am using this A Open slotket on my AX6B with Celeron566@877 with 1.80
volts. No adjustment in the Bios possible
but works very stable for me. The manual on A open's site is better than the
one which came with the adapter. Mine is on Auto

Well, I installed the Aopen FC-PGA Converter Card onto my AX6B motherboard
with the jumpers set on Auto/Intel, and a FC-PGA PIII 750 mounted on it
(BIOS 2.35). Result: system dead as a doornail, refused to boot.

Pulled the converter out and set the jumpers to manual for 1.65vcore, etc.
Result: boot would not even initialize. System dead.

Sheesh!

So, I tried the Iwill Slocket II I had, and set it to 1.65vcore, 100 mhz
bus. Result: System booted right up. Went into BIOS and set the cpu clock to
750. Exited and went directly to Windows 98. Running great and fast for 5
days now. The only glitch I experienced was with my MS Sidewinder 3D Pro
joystick on an SBLive. But, I fixed that with a patch file from MS for the
joystick (sw3dpro.vxd).

So, it seems the Aopen FC-PGA Converter Card was either defective, or just
plain incompatible with my AX6B.
