I have the BH6 1.01 rev mobo. When it boots up, I receive an "Unknown Flash
Type" error message. Everything runs find otherwise...until I want to flash
my BIOS to pick up my brand new 40GB HDD.

When I try to flash the bios with any of the latest BIOS (mine is FU), I
always receive an "Unknown Flash Type !" error message and get kicked out of
the AWDFLASH.EXE utility.

I've found reference to this as far as 1998, but I have yet to find a
solution!

I also found the following information from:
http://fae.abit.com.tw/eng/faq/qa/2000100322.htm
However, I have no idea what this refers to.

I Get an "Unknown Flash Type" message on my screen. (Last Update: 05/28/2001

You have used the incorrect EEPROM. Please use MX type no.28F1000PPC-12C4 or
Winbond type no.W29EE011-15 EEPROM.

Any ideas on what to do??

there is much newer version of bios out there for that system. make sure
you have the newest version of the awdflash.exe utility and download the
newest version of bios for your system (SS) and try to flash it. if it
still gives you that message, then you may need to use the /f command line
parameter on the awdflash.exe command line along with the other correct
command line switches.

Have you checked out the abitfae utility for flashing that board. I flashed
my BH6 with it and it was breeze this way. Less commands and no switch
parameters involved. If you haven't heard of it, you should at least take a
look at this url:

http://www.abios.com/abit/upgrade.html

It might make things a little easier for you.

I THINK (if I remember correctly - it's been a while) I got that same error
message when I first tried it, but believe it was because I forgot to
actually boot from a bootable floppy as instructed. I tried to just run the
executable file. I'm sure that is probably not your problem though, only I
could screw that up.

Good luck,
Dave Fitz
