I have a 650 Coppermine 100MZ chip with a BE6-II mob. I had a lot of
trouble installing a 40 GB Maxtor 7200 ATA66 harddrive as a primary
drive on IDE3 (primary ATA66 channel). I had to first install it as an
ATA33 with the proper cable, format it and load Win98. Then move it to
the ATA66 channel and reset all my bios parameters accordingly. This
seemed to work but I notice on my highpoint boot up screen that the size
is not detected. Although the drive number and mode 4 are recognized.
Any body else have these kind of problems? I don't really know how to
determine if my HD is running at the correct speed or how fast it should
be. Thanks for any help.........Bill

There is a known issue with Maxtor drives and the highpoint UDMA66 chip.
Many people reported system freezes under heavy disk load if the use a
Maxtor on IDE 3 or 4. There have been suggestions to "slow down" to
UDMA33-mode in the highpoint bios or swap it back to IDE 1 or IDE 2 if
possible. As far as I know there is no satisfactory solution for this
problem yet. Hopefully highpoint is working on it.

I too have tried to put a Maxtor 40gb on the BP6 HPT366 IDE 3 channel but
experienced the freezes when copying large files. After spending a weekend
trying to get it to work, I eventually put my Promise Ultra/66 card back in
the system and now the drive is fine again. I guess I'll yank it once
HighPoint gets there act together.
