Abit KA7 won't boot to the bios screen.... Using a 750mhz Athlon processor
& tried 16 megs PC66, 64 megs PC100, 128 megs PC100, & 128megs PC133 of
SDRAM, plus reset FSB to 66....doesn't matter. Still won't boot to bios.
Removed Matrox G400 max AGP & tried a Diamond MM3D 2000 4 meg PCI video
card...still no bios screen.
Any suggestions???

What power supply? It needs to be a very good one for an Athlon system.

I am experiencing the exact same problem, and I would really like to find a
solution: here is my setup:

Addtronics 3891A case with PS300A Power Supply (not in AMD list? )
AMD 700Mhz series C proc
ASUS v6800 AGP4x vid card w/ 32M DDR
2 Mushkin 64M PC133 DIMMS

does anyone have anything to say about this, other than try replacing the
power supply? I have already written to Addtronics, but I'm looking for a
fast answer to an expensive problem ($1500 of useless hardware sitting on my
desk)

Thanks,

Hello
Try resetting the bios either by the jumper or by takeing out the battery.
The latter worked for me. Hope this helps.

I've read most of the Athlon boards are incredibly finicky about memory.
Try just one stick of memory to boot, see what happens.

I got the same problem. When I plug the power cord in and push the power
button, all the system does is turn the fans around a few times and then,
nothing. And to repeat the same, exciting jolt of electricity to the fans
thing, I have to unplug the power cord, wait a while, plug it back in and
Walla! the fans rotate a few times. My old motherboard starts up perfectly.
Weird

Make sure that your memory is in Dimm Slot #1 (FARTHEST from the Slot-A), it
seems to make a big difference on how the board responds to memory. Mine
would boot was unstable with anything but 10ns selected in BIOS, and I was
using Micron/Crucial PC133 (the good stuff)!

Looked in the manual, saw the warning about populating from slots 1-4
sequentially in order......moved the memory, and tada! - Rock stable! For
kicks I tried a stick of Viking in slot 4 by itself, and it didn't even
POST!

Well, I took the proc down to a local dealer, and he tried it on a
working motherboard and nothing happened. Same deal, different
motherboard, so I returned it to original dealer, got a new one finally,
and system still won't boot. The memory I'm using is Mushkin (also
supposedly the good stuff) and I've been trying only one stick in slot 1
(furthest away from the proc).

I'm fed up with the whole thing, and I'm going to send the pair back to
the distributor, have them test it, and then go from there. I'm
actually disgusted at this whole process at this point.

Thanks for trying

Cindy,

I had the same problem. No power at all. Even without CPU, Memory, or
any daughter cards. Tried on 3 different power supplies, 2 of which
were AMD approved. An ATX motherboard with NO CPU, NO Memory, and
nothing in the slots should still make the power supply turn on when
the atx power supply connector is plugged in, and case powerswitch
cables are plugged in, and the case switch is pressed...

I figured it to be DOA board, called Abit, and tech told me to return
to vendor for RMA. I have since sent it back, and waiting for a new
one.
