I have XP 64 on this system already on a 40 GB HD. I installed a new
160 GB EIDe drive and try to install XP 64. XP sees the drive formats it and
starts to install. When it tries to reboot I get "A disk read error has
occured" "Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart".

The drive is recognized in the bios.

I tried jumpering it as a single as well as cable select.

I tried creating a single partition of 80 GB.

I ran WD's latest Data Lifeguard but it granted me no insight.

Both the old 40 GB drive and the new 160 GB drive are mounted in a Kingwin
KF23-IPF IDE mobil rack. I can plug in the 40 and it works fine.

I tried installing Win2K to the 160 with the same result.

Ubuntu 7.10 installs and runs ok. (Unfortunatly I need Auto Cad 2008)

Any ideas why I can't install Win XP64?

Thanks in advance for advice.

Did you actually run the diagnostic utility?
