Hi Group,
My first time with this group and I hope a knowledgeable person out
there who owns or has owned the A640 will know how to change the
Start-up picture in "My Camera Menu". I am 82 years of age and my wife
has passed away recently. I have just discovered, according to the
Advanced Camera User Guide, page 24, that it is possible to change the
Start-up image and even use a photo of your own. Wishing to put a photo
of my late wife, I have been trying to perform this for two full days.
The manual is useless and may be written by those who know,but certainly
not understandable by people who don't know. An email to Canon in
Sydney was useless with no help provided other than to mention page 24.
What I would like is a tutorial explaining the process and whether I
need any items downloaded in order to achieve this change.

This is an interesting exercise you are embarking on!
Let me start off by saying that I have a different Powershot model
camera to yours; I have a Powershot SX130 but there is a strong family
resemblance in the way each camera works.
My first suggestion is that you are looking in the wrong manual! Far
better to use the "Software Starter Guide" (if it is included on your
Canon A640 Solution disk). I had a quick looh at the Software Starter
Guide that appears to be on Solution Disk ver29. Starting on page 39
there seems to be a solution for what you wish to do; for now, I will
have to leave you to your own devices.
As I have other commitments, I may not get back to you until Monday.
