No matter whether I use the regular silver FujiFilm or the color ones...the
CD's will start the burn at 16x...at 10% change to 20X and never burn at
24x. I have tried three or four batches and found the same, no matter what.
I can burn Ritek, Mitsui, ProDisc, Maxell, Verbatim (Mitsubishi) and almost
any brand at 24X except the FujiFilm. Like the Fuji's because they are
Taiyo Yuden. Anyone else notice this.

Firmware 1.03

Do they have an ATIP speed rating preventing high gear on your burner?
The speed sticker on the package could be placed over older markings on
Fujifilm; I've observed this myself.

i've have the 24/10/40A Plextor, and all my CDR's are the colored 24x
Fujifilm 700Mb...They are indeed Taiyo Yuden and burn fine at
24x..i've not had one coaster yet, and i even upgraded the firmware
from 1.02 to 1.03 and everything is still fine..i am using Nero for
burning data CD's...i have yet to try audio CD's..

It is strange that different batches yield the same results (no 24x
write)...did you buy the Fuji's all at the same store? I got all mine
from Target..

The speed change is normal for this burner. It starts at 16X, switches to
20X, and ends up at 24X. In Feurio, it reports average burn speed of 22.4X
or thereabouts. I use the Fuji Taiyo Yuden discs all the time and don't
have a problem with them.

i think Bob is saying his Plextor does NOT make the proverbial jump to
light speed from 20x-->24x zone change...

I found the problem. CD Speed .085C that comes with Nero 5.5.7.8 has a bug
in it to where it won't report that any of my 32X media (Mitsui and TDK)
will burn over 20X. I have another machine where I run an older version of
Nero (5.5.6.4) and copied CD Speed (.085Beta) to the directory on my New
machine and now the media reads 16x for first 10%, 20X for next 15% and then
24X. I emailed Ahead about this. Hopefully they will rectify the problem.

Thanks for the replies...

Bob

I have a stack here that are working fine. I had a stack of Fuji 12x that
would burn at 24x under Win2000, but when I did the upgrade to WinXP last
Friday, that stack no longer burns above 20x.

I wonder if you got hold of a stack of relabled 12x or 16x discs when their
supply of 24x discs were running a little low?

Is he writing sufficient data to reach the area of the disc where it will
make that last jump I wonder? My understanding is that the highest speed is
only applicable to the outer parts of the disc.

This could very likely be the reason, as I think that drive does use P-ZLV
technology (records at a set speed per zone on the disc.)
