Hi - I am using Win98SE with a P4-2.4GHz, 512MB RAM on an Abit IC7-G.

Recently, I have started getting a total system lockup when I view certain
web pages with activeX or javascript. The web pages are OK, and have been
looked at by plenty of other people. It doesn't happen every time, but still
it happens 75% or so.

I used McAfee AntiVirus, which found a worm 'W32/Plexus.b@MM'
http://uk.mcafee.com/virusInfo/defa...&virus_k=126167

and removed it, but there may be some aditional damage done.

Is there any way to monitor why a system locks up ? I had hoped DrWatson
would work, but it doesn't seem to cope with total lock-up.

Is there any way to find out what damage the worm did, and repair it ?

Tim in Ireland.

Hi,

Been having similar problems. Haven't been able to trace it to
anything. My antivirus program never complains, and I don't note any
odd activity with the firewall. I re-installed my OS and it seemed to
help some. Yet about every time I got on the internet or worked with
Outlook Express it would crash. Sometimes in bits and pieces, and other
times with no warning. I tried to re-install IE, but have yet to find a
way to do it. [the Add/Remove only lets you add or repair, and the
repair says a file is two old and does go any farther. I removed and
re-installed Outlook and that seemed to help so far.

Sincerely,
